TRADE ALERT
White Sox Get: OF Carlos Quinten
Diamondbacks Get: Minor League 1B Chris Carter
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...rtnered=rss_mlb
I like this trade. We get a good, young outfielder, and someone who can actually get on base. Chris Carter is a big time masher, but we really dont need a 1B for a few years, and a mashing 1B are a dime a dozen. Good trade for the Sox here, not sure how it looks to D-Back fans, im sure Chris and NGO can give some feedback on this as well.
The sox traded their #1 position prospect for Q.
That's nice of them..
#1 position prospect in the whitesox farm system is like a #6 position prospect for most teams. He really isnt anything special to us. Gio Gonzalez, Jack Egbert, Lance Broadway, De Los Santos, and a couple other pitchers are our good players. I think its a fair trade. Average position minor leaguer with + power, for a young OF with good upside.
It's ok.
Quentin has potential but he was flat out bad for us this year. I have always been fond of Chris Carter but he still has a while to go before his ready for the majors. We are just loaded with OF prospects so I am sort of glad we got rid of the least talented one, though I wish we could have gotten some young pitching instead but that would not work.
I think this trade was just more for us unloading some spare parts. Would not surprise me if Carter is traded before he plays in a backs uniform.
I dont think it was a "spare parts" deal, as much as it was a "risk for risk" deal. A risk for the Sox in terms of Quintin rebounding from his torn labrum (reason for poor 2007), and a risk for the Dbacks in that Carter is still 2-3 years away from the Big leagues, and may not pan out.
For us, however, we are going to be starting Quintin right away in left field. It's been a realitively good offseason. Our final pieces really are for a CF (Fukudome, Andruw Jones, Rowand), and then some bullpen help. Bullpen can be fixed with a trade of Joe Crede, so we are actually looking pretty good this offseason.
Im not one to correct spelling errors at all but I am just pointing out that your new white sox player's last name is Quentin, not Quintin
And it was us getting rid of spare parts. You are sort of right though with the risk for a risk but mostly it was us dumping "extras"
Quentin...
:o
Oh Noes! I already ordered my jersey in that name!
:o lol. I might as well just call him Q.

Big news for the Blue Jays: JP Riccardi shoots a 2 under par on the back nine!
DO SOMETHING JP! We have the chips to make one big deal. We can offer more than the Red Sox or Yankees for Santana, we could easily acquire Eric Bedard, or best yet make a play for Miguel Cabrerra. Give them Alex Rios in the deal and all would be well in Jays land.

Yahoo Sports! Tim Brown believes the Red Sox could acquire Johan Santana from the Twins for Jon Lester, Coco Crisp, Justin Masterson and another minor leaguer. With Jed Lowrie as the other minor leaguer, that'd be Boston's reported initial trade proposal. We're guessing Jacoby Ellsbury is in the deal as presently constructed and Coco Crisp is out Otherwise, the Twins really, really like Lester. Definitely more than they do Phil Hughes. FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal adds weight to the Boston Globe reports, writing that the Red Sox have "roared" back into the race for Johan Santana. "They are in it now," a major league source told Rosenthal. ESPN.com's Buster Olney also believes the Red Sox are in the lead now, though he has no new information. Source: ESPN.com Related: Red Sox, Yankees

The Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox have traded medical information with the Twins on Jon Lester in a possible prelude to a Johan Santana deal. It sounds as though something is brewing. If the Red Sox are giving up both Jacoby Ellsbury and Lester, it might mean the Twins are sending back a sweetener. Of course, it's possible Ellsbury isn't in the deal, but we really don't see how the Twins could do a deal without him. Source: Boston.com Related: Red Sox, Yankees

The Twins and Red Sox have concluded trade talks for the night with a deal likely within reach, the Boston Globe reports. The Globe says there are indications that the deal would be Jon Lester, Coco Crisp, Jed Lowrie and Justin Masterson for Johan Santana. ESPN's Buster Olney also believes that's the package. Crisp doesn't seem like a great fit for a Twins club that figures to have little chance of contending next year, though as outstanding as he is defensively, he is being undervalued as a trade property. The Twins would also be getting a potential No. 2 starter in Lester, a possible No. 3 or a closer in Masterson and a likely starting second baseman in Lowrie. Phil Hughes is a better bet than all of them, but the Twins must not rate him as highly as many do. Source: Boston.com Related: Jon Lester, Coco Crisp, Jacoby Ellsbury, Red Sox, Yankees
PLEASE OH PLEASE BE TRUE!

Chris Burke headed to the WhiteSox?
- Quote:
-
Steve Phillips of ESPN reports that the White Sox are close to acquiring Chris Burke from the Astros for an unknown relief pitcher. Burke became expendable when Houston signed Kaz Matsui and would be competing with Juan Uribe and Danny Richard to start at second base in Chicago. David Aardsma and Nick Masset are both out of options, making them possibilities in such a deal.
I heard the player was Lance Broadway.

According to ESPN's Peter Gammons, the Red Sox and Twins are close to finalizing a Johan Santana trade after Boston added Ryan Kalish to the mix. Gammons says it'd be a 5-for-1, and with Kalish in mix, it only makes sense that the Twins would be taking Jon Lester, Coco Crisp, Jed Lowrie and Justin Masterson. If Jacoby Ellsbury was involved, the Twins probably wouldn't be asking for the additional center field prospect. Like Lowrie and Masterson, Kalish ranks comfortably among Boston's top 10 prospects. He is much further away from the majors than the others. Related: Angels, Red Sox, Yankees

According to Troy E. Renck of the Denver Post, the Rockies have offered shortstop Clint Barmes to the Astros for second baseman Chris Burke. Seems a reasonable swap of blocked middle infielders.
What a joke if the Stros accept.
