Chris Burke headed to the WhiteSox?

Quote:

Steve Phillips of ESPN reports that the White Sox are close to acquiring Chris Burke from the Astros for an unknown relief pitcher.
Burke became expendable when Houston signed Kaz Matsui and would be competing with Juan Uribe and Danny Richard to start at second base in Chicago. David Aardsma and Nick Masset are both out of options, making them possibilities in such a deal.

I heard the player was Lance Broadway.

I would be cool with that. Lance Broadway is a decent pitching prospect, but I dont see him doing better than Danks, Floyd, or Gio. Chris Burke would be some nice insurance for Richar. No D in his last name by the way.

I also heard today that the Brewers were close to acquiring Joe Crede last night. I hoping it can reappear and maybe for a Bill Hall, or maybe a couple relievers. I was thinking maybe Crede to the Angels since they missed out on Cabrera. A package around Crede for Santana? That would be nice.

I don't break character until after the DVD commentary

This is extremely unlikely, but it's cool anyway.

Santana/Reyes/Haren Blockbuster In The Works?
Just got an incredible rumor from a trusted New York sportswriter.  Stay with me, because this one's crazy.  But rest assured that if the source wasn't good, I wouldn't post it.

Minnesota has initiated talks for a three-way blockbuster with the Twins and A's.  Here's how it would go down:

Mets send Jose Reyes, Kevin Mulvey, and Hector Pellot to A's
A's send Bobby Crosby and Dan Johnson to Mets
A's send Dan Haren to Twins
Twins send Johan Santana to Mets

Mets get Johan Santana, Bobby Crosby and Dan Johnson
A's get Jose Reyes and Kevin Mulvey
Twins get Dan Haren and Hector Pellot

The source says Haren is exactly the type of player the Twins want for Santana, a cheap frontline starter. It's known the Mets would hate to deal Reyes but they would get some value beyond Santana.  Billy Beane is happy because he gets Reyes for one more year than he had Haren plus longtime favorite Mulvey.  And, he's out of Crosby's contract.

How I immediately noticed that was BS:

Why would you want Santana after that year (7-14, 5.76 ERA, 4.56 park-adjusted ERA)? He looks awful. First he couldn't pitch on the road, then he couldn't do it at all.

Baseball Reference compares him to both Hideki Irabu and a bunch of guys no one has heard of overall and Kyle Lohse, Jaret Wright, and Jeff Weaver through age 24.

I don't know. I guess if Crede's back is still unknown it's one of those risk-for-risk deals you guys were talking about before. I just don't know if I'd want that guy pitching for me right now.

ESPN's Enrique Rojas reports that the Nationals have signed Wily Mo Pena to a two-year extension worth $7MM.  He'll get $2MM in '08 and $5MM in '09.  The deal buys out one year of free agency.

The Oakland A's may not be actively shopping righty Dan Haren, but it doesn't mean they aren't trying things on for size.

According the the New York Post, the A's and Arizona Diamondbacks talked about a trade featuring Haren and first baseman Dan Johnson for Arizona's Carlos Gonzalez and Connor Jackson.

I would not mind the deal but it wont happen...

Cubs are actively. pursing Brian Roberts.
Rotoworld: Rich Hill and Eric Patterson? Felix Pie and Sean Marshall or Sean Gallagher? Either would be a high price to pay, but the Cubs desire a fast second baseman after missing out on Kaz Matsui. Talks have progressed far enough that the Orioles are already showing interest in Tadahito Iguchi, according to the Baltimore Sun. Dec. 5 - 6:59 pm et

The M's are busy...

They are trying to put together a possible deal that would send OF Adam Jones, OF Wladmir Balentien and P Brandow Morrow to the O's for Erik Bedard. Brian Roberts and George Sherill may also be involved. The two teams met today. The Dodgers had the upper hand on everyone else in the Bedard sweepstakes, but took Broxton out of the deal last night and Seattle now has a big advantage over everyone. As much as I'd love a Felix/Bedard 1-2, giving up Jones and Balentien is a joke.

Also, Seattle is trying hard to put together a deal with the Brewers for Ben Sheets. Which could involve Jose Lopez. The M's also are trying hard for Marcus Giles, the front office is already upset with Jose Lopez. -_-

Lastly, the M's are close on a deal with Japanese pitcher Hiroki Kuroda, they offered a 4-year/$44 million dollar deal. The one problem is he wants five years and 50+ million.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Pitcher Aaron Cook and the Colorado Rockies were near an agreement Wednesday on a three-year contract worth $30 million.

"It's close, but there are still issues to be worked out," agent Joe Bick said. "There's not a deal yet."
