Scott Boras is such a boner. Andruw Jones got 2 Years/36.2 Million. That extra $200,000 is so that Boras can say him and Andruw got more than Torri Hunter did.
Prick.

I was thinking maybe Crede to the Angels since they missed out on Cabrera. A package around Crede for Santana? That would be nice.
Why would you want Santana after that year (7-14, 5.76 ERA, 4.56 park-adjusted ERA)? He looks awful. First he couldn't pitch on the road, then he couldn't do it at all. Baseball Reference compares him to both Hideki Irabu and a bunch of guys no one has heard of overall and Kyle Lohse, Jaret Wright, and Jeff Weaver through age 24. I don't know. I guess if Crede's back is still unknown it's one of those risk-for-risk deals you guys were talking about before. I just don't know if I'd want that guy pitching for me right now.
Great time to buy low in this kid. You also got to realize that when you have Don Cooper as your pitching coach, he is going to really help whoever you bring in. Maybe if the Angels are as down on Santana as you are, we can snag him straight up for Crede.
Wouldn't doubt that Moreno and Reagins would take Crede straight up for Santana. If I was the Halos, I wouldn't trade Santana. I still think he'll end up pretty good...
There are worse deals out there for the Angels than Crede for Santana. For example, giving up anything of value for Tejada.
Getting Tejada would be dumb at this point in his career. OR we could sign Eckstein again.
Yeah, just what the Angels need at 3B -- David Eckstein.....
Speaking of Eckstein:

11:22 a.m, from Jerry Crasnick • With the Twins in search of middle-infield help, one potential target is free agent David Eckstein. "I've always had a lot of respect for him," said Minnesota manager Ron Gardenhire. "He catches the ball. He knows how to play. He's a ______ ______."
If we had comments, I'd let you guys guess what Gardy said in the comments section. But we don't!
It would be great if the answer were "fucking cocksucker."
Hopefully Andruw succeeds with the Dodgers, in a non-hurting-the-Braves sort of way. I do see Andruw getting back to top notch form with the Dodgers, and by that I mean +.360 OBP...

Astros Tejada Trade Not Close, But Possible
- Quote:
-
UPDATE, 12-6-07 at 5:01pm: MLB.com's Alyson Footer checks in with some detail. She notes that no deal is close but it is possible. Hunter Pence, J.R. Towles, and Felipe Paulino are considered off-limits.
UPDATE, 12-6-07 at 3:02pm: Still listening to 790...the message is now that the talks are in an "advanced stage" and they do not know the names involved. There's also a question of whether Tejada would waive his no-trade. Ken Rosenthal checks in - the teams have had significant discussions and may have been on the verge at some point. But nothing is imminent.
UPDATE, 12-6-07 at 1:33pm: ESPN's Jayson Stark says Andy MacPhail has left Nashville without a deal in place. But talks about Tejada and Brian Roberts are on the frontburner. Hopefully Jeff Zrebiec will weigh in soon...
FROM 12-6-07 at 12:39pm:
790 The Sports Animal, a Houston radio station, is reporting that the Astros are close to a deal to acquire Miguel Tejada. The reported package: Adam Everett, Chris Burke, and a pitcher. Heard them saying this myself by listening online; they're talking about it now.
The package sounds light, but maybe better if Troy Patton is the pitcher. More when I have it.
If they could get that done I'd have no problem with it. Can you say Best lineup in the National League Central?
1. Bourn, CF 2. Matsui, 2B 3. Pence, RF 4. Berkman, 1B 5. Lee, LF 6. Tejada, SS 7. Wigginton, 3B 8. Towles, C

Cubs are actively. pursing Brian Roberts. Rotoworld: Rich Hill and Eric Patterson? Felix Pie and Sean Marshall or Sean Gallagher? Either would be a high price to pay, but the Cubs desire a fast second baseman after missing out on Kaz Matsui. Talks have progressed far enough that the Orioles are already showing interest in Tadahito Iguchi, according to the Baltimore Sun. Dec. 5 - 6:59 pm et
If Hendry makes that trade, www.firedustybaker.com needs to change its URL to www.firejimhendry.com. Who the hell values "fast" so much? Why do the Chicago papers act like missing out on Kaz Matsui was a bad thing?

Honestly, don't know why everyone wanted him. But he really will help our team, unlike the Cubs because they could start DeRosa..

Teams wanted him because he's cheap and seemed to turn his career around in Colorado. The problem is that he didn't play any better than previously when he was on the road. He was helped tremendously by the thin air in Denver.

I would never think highly of someone talking about a player "turning it around" while in Colorado. Unless he's a pitcher, then you got a story.
