TRADE ALERT

Cubs send OF Craig Monroe to Twins for Player to be named later.

Quote:

CHICAGO -- The Cubs continued to shuffle their roster in preparation for 2008, dealing outfielder Craig Monroe to the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday for a player to be named.
The Cubs acquired Monroe on Aug. 23 from Detroit for reliever Clay Rapada to add another right-handed bat, and he hit .204 with a home run and four RBIs in 23 games in Chicago. Between the Tigers and Cubs, Monroe batted .219 with 12 homers and 59 RBIs in 122 games in 2007.

Weird. This is 2 OF in 2 days that have been dealt by the Cubs... I have a feeling something big is coming.....

Cubs Major League roster is now at 38.

Bruce Levine reports the Sox are offering Torii Hunter a deal worth $15 Million a year. He didn't report how many years it was for though.

As much as a lot of bloggers on Sox sites hate Hunter, I am excited to get him. Yes, he is $15 mil a year, and YES he is getting older. But at this point, with no competent CF or Leadoff man since 2005, im sick of terrible experiments.

Bring on Hunter. I cant tell you how many HR he has already robbed at the Cell, and the field should be easier on him than the rock hard astroturf in Minnesota.

I would rather have Hunter than Rowand.

Rowand's been worse than Jacque Jones in 2 of the last 3 years. In no way, should anyone offer him $15 Million.

You know, even with the White Sox offering Hunter that much money, I still feel he'll end up on the other Chicago team.

There is no way Hunter goes to the Cubs because when he WAS with the Twins, in his contract he said he dosent want to get traded to the Cubs because he refuses to play on Wrigley's outfield.

The difference though is that Rowand wont command as much money as hunter, he is younger, better defensively, and is probably not on the decline like Hunter will be. Hunter just has speed and offense over Rowand right now, but that speed will deteriorate in a year or two.

Xx Yankee xX

A-Rod might be a Yankee after all....

Quote:

The New York Yankees began direct contract dialogue with third baseman Alex Rodriguez on Wednesday.

In a statement released by Rodriguez he said he and his wife Cynthia have spoken directly with Hank and Hal Steinbrenner.

It is absolutely clear, however, that the negotiations -- which never really got started last month -- are now on-going, and agent Scott Boras is not part of the dialogue.

"Alex reached out to the Yankees, and he made it clear he wants to be a Yankee," said one source. "He understands what has to be done."

Rodriguez released the following statement on his Web site.

"After spending time with Cynthia and my family over these last few weeks, it became clear to me that I needed to make an attempt to engage the Yankees regarding my future with the organization.

"Prior to entering into serious negotiations with other clubs, I wanted the opportunity to share my thoughts directly with Yankees' ownership. We know there are other opportunities for us, but Cynthia and I have a foundation with the club that has brought us comfort, stability and happiness.

So if A-Rod wants to come back to NY then how can the Yankees refuse? If A-Rod didnt want to come back that would be a different story.
