This terrible article by Bill Conlin has been ripped to shreads by blogs all over the net, and I've found it to be amusing seeing Conlin defend himself.

Here are the 3 most notable places:

http://www.firejoemorgan.com/search/label/laptop%20science

http://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/files/...inning_numbers/

And this site, which is a sabermetrics-based Philadelphia Phillies blog:

http://crashburnalley.com/?p=47

It includes a series of e-mails between the blogger and Bill Conlin himself.

I thought of this to be hilarious and a perfect example of ignorant sports journalism. You'll get a laugh out of it, too.

I don't break character until after the DVD commentary

:rotfl:

I think Jimmy Rollins not deserving Gold Glove, Silver Slugger, or MVP might be the one thing "saber-metricians" and "traditionalists" can reach a consensus on.

The best part is that the blogger actually thinks Wright should have won MVP.

Yeah, who cares about the fact that he had the 2nd best offensive season[in the NL]ert Pujols(Along with 34/39SBs), while playing good defense at 3rd base.

It's all about the determination and leadership shown down the stretch....

I am a Ignorant Nazi Ass

And while the American League has had two freaks of nature who have put up engine room numbers at shortstop - Cal Ripken and the pre-third base Alex Rodriguez - the National League hasn't seen anything quite like the season the Flying Fireplug regaled us with last season since Ernie Banks. Not from a shortstop.

Yes, perfectly valid, except for the fact that Rollins was offensively outplayed by a shortstop in his own league this very year. 2007. The year we're talking about.

Flying Fireplug
OBP .344
OPS+ 118
EqA .298
BtRuns 15.0
VORP 66.1

Shitty Assplug
OBP .386
OPS+ 145
EqA .323
BtRuns 42.1
VORP 89.5

Shitty Assplug plays for the Florida Marlins. So yeah, instead of saying "the National League hasn't seen a season quite like this one since 1842!" a better thing to say would be "a season like this hasn't been seen since a season happening at this exact same time, only totally better in almost every way!"

I mean OMG how dumb are you that you just totally overlook Hanely. I mean what a joke. And Jimmy's ".531 Big man" SLG was beat by Hanely with a .562. This is just a joke! I cant belive that this guy gets PAID to do this.
