Is Ozzie's act getting old?
Ken Williams was walking a fine line Sunday. On one hand, he didn't want to discount the latest comments from his manager as simply ''Ozzie being Ozzie.'' On the other hand, he's so used to doing ''Ozzie Guillen damage control'' that at times it seems to get old for the White Sox general manager. -- Chicago Sun Times
What is that referring to? Slow news day?

I really hope Ozzie stays. I'm gonna miss his theory of "Teams lose 90 games because of their lack of attitude, not because they were last in OBP and other important categories."

''He's probably serious. Generally, when Ozzie says it, he's serious. What do you want me to say? Good,'' Williams said.
Guillen told the Sun-Times on Saturday: ''Trust me, if this thing takes the wrong direction early on like it did last year, I swear to God if it reaches that point, I'm going to [chairman Jerry Reinsdorf] and saying, 'Look, don't let my contract make it so I'm holding you hostage, we can talk about something different. You can rip up my contract and do a new one, less years, you won't have to pay me for this.'''
Asked if he had said that to Reinsdorf, Guillen said no, but he will. Considering the Sox signed Guillen last September to an extension through the 2012 season, to have that deal ripped up would seem to be unprecedented.

That would be a helluva thing to see. A manager realizing his team is struggling, and ripping up his contract so the organization won't have to sit through his tenure with this bad team.

Yeah, rather than, I don't know, helping them get through it or righting the ship. I mean, he did win them a World Series.

The Sox don't need to get better, or a new manager, or any of that schmuck, they need more attitude, and an edge.

TUCSON - Micah Owings had his third shaky outing of the Cactus League season on Thursday, his command erratic enough that if the Diamondbacks aren't yet concerned they are probably getting there.
Owings allowed three runs (two earned) in 2 2/3 innings against Milwaukee, giving up five hits and three walks. He has allowed 12 hits, eight walks and eight earned runs in 6 1/3 innings in the Cactus League.
"You like to see results every time," manager Bob Melvin said. "Some days it's just not going to happen. Right now, he's going through a little bit of a funk as far as his command."
The velocity on his fastball was normal - he was mostly in the high-80s with some pitches registering in the low-90s - but he struggled to throw his off-speed pitches for strikes.
"He was aggressive with the fastball, which was good," catcher Chris Snyder said. "I just talked to him a little bit. What we came up with from this outing is he needs to be as aggressive with his off-speed."
Owings tried making an adjustment. He had been working this year on pitching from the right side of the rubber, an adjustment he thought would create deception. But he scrapped that, moving back to the first-base side of the rubber.
"I was kind of fighting against myself instead of nice and easy," he said.
"This time out I felt a lot better than I did last time out. . . . I'm not satisfied and I'm going to continue working."
Shit.

LOOKING LIKE LEADOFF: Corey Patterson is hitting .474 this spring, mostly in the leadoff spot.
"I always thought he'd be a good leadoff man," Baker said. "He's got all the tangibles to be a leadoff man. Maybe sometime you're not ready. When he came up, he didn't know how to bunt. They said he was going to be a 30-30 man and it got in his head."
Poor Jay Bruce... That's all I gotta say.
