Well, we don't have a thread for our own baseball expoilts and I know that some of us play (either HS, college or old man league).

So here you can discuss your recent games, seasons, big plays, ect...

To start, I joked about it in the SNBaseball thread, but I was 0 for 4 last night in our first game. I used my wood bat and felt pretty good with it, with a couple swings as exceptions.

1st AB -- I stung a ball down the first base side, but the 1B made a nice play knocking it down. I nearly beat him to the bag anyway (about a half-step). Nailed his little 2-0 curveball right on the sweet spot.

2nd AB -- struck out on a curveball with an awkward swing, pulling my head. I felt like crap for most of the night after hitting the gym on Friday and then helping someone move on Saturday -- not a good combination. I did battle him and got to a 2-2 count, fouling some pitches off.

3rd AB -- got jammed, right in on the hands and sent it back past the pitcher. I think it was the short stop that came up and threw me out.

4th AB -- wasn't even expecting to get up again, what with the time left for drop-dead and running out of innings (we batted everyone and I was eighth in a group of 12 or so). But I did and I stroked a ball on either the first or second pitch just behind short, who caught it. Just got under it. But again, sweet spot.

In the field, we didn't roll and DPs, and we missed on the one guy we had a chance to throw out on a steal (I play second), but I chased a ball to the outfield, snagging it and nearly catching the guy hanging off first. I looked up and realized he was halfway to second and I froze for a second -- it was like I couldn't believe it and wasn't sure what to do. I gunned it to first and just missed him. Didn't have much else hit to me.

It was a good game and we lost by I think a run or two -- they caught up and passed us when we left our second-to-last pitcher in too long.

You in the Beer League?

Sorta, but it's not softball. It's the 25+ league, men's baseball. We used to play double headers (7 innings each) every weekend at the 19+ level, but when we moved up last year, it's now one nine inning game. We had like 13 people and everyone batted that showed up, so to get four ABs was kind of a surprise. I was the only player on either team to use a wood bat.

Why do you use a wood bat? I understand the whole thing with being like the pros, but it gives you a disadvantage. Plus it hurts a lot when you get jammed, haha.

It's fun. That's really it, it has nothing to do with being like the pros or anything. Anyone can hit with aluminum, but the wood is great and it's harder to do. And it sounds great!

I know it's a disadvantage, but it's not that bad. I hit two right on the sweet spot in my last game and only got jammed on one and it didn't hurt.

The bat I have is great, too. It's weighted perfect and the sweet spot is huge for a wood bat. Anyway, I love using it. If I go too long without a hit or batting like .100, I'll go to my Omaha aluminum and I'll be raking.

Only problem with wood bats is you spend all that money on it, and then with one swing, it shatters.

Mine wasn't that expensive, I think maybe $40-50. Not that expensive to me, anyway. You can get some for like $80-100.

I've broken some before, and split others (Rawlings bats are awful -- I broke one at a cage the first time I used it (snapped off in my hand), and my other one broke during BP (same thing)). This one, knock on wood (ha, ha) hasn't had a problem yet -- no chipping, no splits; even when I get jammed or hit one of the end there is nothing wrong with it. Usually that'll at least split it.

But yeah, they're "fragile." I'm actually looking for another of the same model as a back up, just in case.

I am a Ignorant Nazi Ass

Ok back in little league I played on a team that went 2-24 (second worst record recorded in that park) and we were coming into the last game of the season and we were playing the first place team who was like 21-3 (can't be for sure about these records because it was so long ago). Well anyways, we played 7 inning games and we were beating this first place team 3-1 in the top of the seventh. Well I don't exactly remember the details but the final score to that game was 24-3, I remember the pitcher that gave up most of the runs started to cry when he got pulled.

We all wanted to mercy but my coach was so pissed that he was like "NO these kids are gonna stay out here and lose like they should". It was gay.

The only thing good that came out of that season was me winning league best fielder.

Still have the trophy to this day, only award I ever got in baseball. I could have won it the next year but fucking Asian dick won it instead.

My best game ever was in high school. I was the SP, my stat line was CG, 0 runs, and 14 K's.

My junior year of high school I hit three home runs in one game in a school varsity state tournament in Spokane. That was probably my best individual performance. It still amazes me I did it.

Playing baseball for as long as I did, there were a lot of comebacks and performances as a team that I remember. I like those kind of games better than 10-1 blowouts where I bat 4-4 or whatever.

I played in a summer league last year for 18-25 year olds, my first league in three years. I was a bit rusty, but it was only 15 games. It was fun, but I was pretty busy with work, the girlfriend, buddies, so I couldn't commit to it as much as I would have liked to.
