It's not total nonsense. It's good for a quick look at a player, but it's flawed like hell. I'm not exactly sure why he dislikes it(though you could probably dig it up in his blog), but a ton of it has to do with how it counts OBP and slugging as equals, which is not true. Maybe if it were: 1.8OBP + slugging It just doesn't make much sense to add the two together. Also, why would you use OPS when you run estimators at your disposal, such as wOBA and EqA which are based on LWTS? |

That was a whole lot like the game in which the A's won their 20th consecutive game after blowing a 11-0 lead. :o |

That would have been win #117. Actually, should have been win #117. I'll never forget that day. It was a Sunday night ESPN baseball game. It's one of those days you just can't forget. Everyone has them. -_- |

Found a better formula for eBABIP: Actually, 2. One Tango e-mailed to me and the other one is from blog which I can't find anymore: .75*LD +.27*GB +.15*FB and .763LD% + .265GB% + .131FB% The 2nd one is better. Tango's caused some discrepancies with IF(infield fly) in the equation, so I took it out. Really, it's illogical because every IF gets caught, unless like Lastings Milledge or Eli is out there. |

Really? I am not saying the stat is perfect or anything but to put it off all together seems wrong. Lord knows Tommy Tango knows more about baseball stats then I will in 4 life times but I just want to know the reasoning as to why he discounts OPS.
