Yeah, when he was a rookie I think?

I read about it like 5 years ago, it's true as far as I know.
The year before his rookie season.
Close enough.

It's been a few years. It was pills if I remember.

So, go vote for him in the AS Game.
Yeah, 170 of them. Imagine if it would have worked. :bye:

CHILL

1992 story

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9E0CE7DB163EF935A25750C0A964958260

Quote:

As a teen-ager, Ken Griffey Jr. seemed to have it made. He was the eldest son of a baseball star, in a well-to-do family, and talented enough to be picked first in baseball's amateur draft.

But Griffey Jr., now an All-Star outfielder with the Seattle Mariners, said growing up wasn't easy. In fact, he said, life was so bad he tried to kill himself at age 17.

Griffey recounted the incident in a recent interview with The Seattle Times, which published the story Sunday.

"It seemed like everyone was yelling at me in baseball, then I came home and everyone was yelling at me there," he recalled. "I got depressed. I got angry. I didn't want to live."

In January 1988, Griffey said, he swallowed 277 aspirin by his own count and wound up in intensive care at Providence Hospital in Mount Airy, Ohio.

Griffey said he agreed to make the story public in the hope it might dissuade others from seeing suicide as a solution.

I would have liked to see the article go into more details. He felt a lot of pressure of being the #1 pick, and also received many racial threats. Then, he got a lot of pressure Baseball-wise from his parents at home.

If it was player I'm sure the list is a lot longer than Brett Myers (Cal Ripken, I'm looking at you...)

This doesn't deserve its own thread, so I'm asking it here: There is apparently some way to take a box score and find who made the last out of the game. It's not a big deal, but someone at work was talking about it and I wanted to see if I could find the formula.

Anyone know it or where to find it?

The last guy in the last spot with the most plate appearances on the losing team.

Or hits + walks + HBPs + ROEs - double plays - caught stealings for the losing team.
