Olney is about to do his AL snub, I assume it's Lackey or Longoria. And he picks.... Jermaine Dye. Hmm. I think Danks is a bigger snub, but Dye got robbed too. |

Absolutely. Rauch has done well as the default closer, but Guzman has been, far and away, the Nationals' best player all year. It's not even close. And, since his Lasik in the offseason, he's been a completely different player. I'm waiting for the Nats to announce a contract extension any day. |

Huh, I never even heard he went under the Lasik surgery. If we're going to talk about flukey players.. If someone can bitch about Ludwick, a guy can bitch about Cristian Guzman.

Why would you give a mediocre, 30-year old SS a contract extension when you're trying to rebuild? I'm not sure about the Nats prospect situation at SS, but I wouldn't do it. And I disagree. Jon Rauch has been better. Edited by sportslover, Mon Jul 7, 2008 1:08 am.

Rauch has been arguably a top5 closer in the NL. |

See, you guys haven't watched Rauch on an everyday basis. He's such a freaking rollercoaster. He's been more lucky than good. And as for Guzman getting an extension, it's coming. They don't have any real options at short anywhere in the system (Ian Desmond is a huge question mark right now) and he's only 30. Like I said, the Lasik (something a good beat writer finds out) seems to be the thing that got him past his own question mark stage. He used to show flashes of being successful and then would look mediocre other times. Now he's playing the way he can see. Here's something I wrote on him earlier this year: http://www.insidenova.com/isn/sports/high_school_prep/article/guzman_finds_his_groove_this_season/14522/ Edited by yankee242B, Mon Jul 7, 2008 1:20 am.

Has he really gotten any better though? He's been practically average this year, and you could attribute last year's success to the smallish sample size. Edited by sportslover, Mon Jul 7, 2008 1:30 am.

Um, no... I was asking because I thought it was odd that he got passed in one day, when he was in the Top 3 yesterday. So I thought I might have been mistaken. Griffey didn't get snubbed, Matt Holliday got snubbed in terms, he should be starting and not Braun. |

Word. Ryan Braun has no business on that AS team. I can think of about 10 OF that deserve it more (including guys like Mclouth and Ludwick). |
