Do you know who they are? And I'm hoping Jefress is in the deal, at least for the Indians sake. Doubt it though, considering the Indians were looking for position prospects, and the Brewers never wanted to give him up. Edited by sportslover, Sun Jul 6, 2008 6:50 pm.

Yeah, I've been keeping up with this trade since it's been rumored. I'm ready to call this a great deal for Milwaukee since they didn't even get two of their top 3 players, IMO but we don't know the details yet so....

It appears the other 2 prospects are Taylor Green and Johnathan Lucroy. CC is a top 5 pitcher in baseball, and a guy that warrants at least two top tier prospects, say a Matt Laporta and a Mat Gamel, but seeing the situation in which both the Indians and Brewers are in, the prospects seem right (if it in fact is Laporta, Green, Lucroy). LaPorta is a great, polished prospect who, in my opinion, is major league ready and who should be starting in that Cleveland OF next year. The other 2 prospects, Green and Lucroy, aren't elite prospects and they still have some time before they begin to sniff the majors, but they are good prospects and give the Indians positional depth where they need it (Casey Blake is not very good and you could see V-Mart moving to 1b/DH, plus he has 1 year + an option left in his contract, and he'll be commanding big money in FA). You could make a case and say that Green and Lucroy are going to be the Indians best prospects at those 2 positions (even Andy Marte -- whose train might haveeft). I like the deal from the Indians perspective because their backs were against the wall (there were no other serious bidders for CC) and this is more than they would have gotten from 2 suplemental draft picks. As for the Brewers, it's a wait-and-see deal, much like the Mark Teixeira. The team is doing what it has to do in order to get to the playoffs, and you can't fault them for that, but it could look like a pretty bad deal if they don't have success this season and if CC walks, which is very likely. Their top prospect and two good prospects for half a season of CC with no postseason won't look good. Edited by sportslover, Sun Jul 6, 2008 7:19 pm.

Andy Marte sucks. But this just made the Brewers major contenders for the Central. Before the trade, they didn't have much of a chance. I'm sure Chill is pissed, haha. |

Sheets has been one of the best pitchers of the past five years IMO and adding Sabathia as a 1-2 gives them one of the best punches in baseball. If not the best. Of course, assuming this is true and Milwaukee doesn't have to trade the entire farm like Seattle did for Bedard. |

He could do a lot better in the NL, but who knows. Look how Zito turned out. This makes the Brewers a lot better. You add an ace to your pitching staff that already has Ben Sheets. They have decent starters like Bush and Parra, but they needed a winner on there staff. In upcoming years, if CC decides to stay, they will have CC, Sheets, Gallardo and Capuano. If all of them are healthy then this team looks like they can contend with the Cubs for years to come. |
