He could do a lot better in the NL, but who knows. Look how Zito turned out.

This makes the Brewers a lot better. You add an ace to your pitching staff that already has Ben Sheets. They have decent starters like Bush and Parra, but they needed a winner on there staff.

In upcoming years, if CC decides to stay, they will have CC, Sheets, Gallardo and Capuano. If all of them are healthy then this team looks like they can contend with the Cubs for years to come.
No, they will not. Sheets is a FA, too. If CC stays, then Sheets leaves. If Sheets stays, then CC leaves. More than likely both will not be resign and the Brewers will take the supplemental draft picks.

Why would both leave? Do the Brewers not have a big enough payroll for it?

Because they both will want a lot of cash, and Brewers can pick up 5 picks of the first 35 in the draft next June which is HUGE.

Probably not. Unless their owner opens up the checkbook. Both will probably cost them around $40 mil total......which would be around 1/2 of their 2007 payroll.

Not to mention they have Prince's arbitration. You actually gave me an idea. I'll post tomorrow. Thanks, Yankee1012 aka the jew.

Andy Marte sucks.

But this just made the Brewers major contenders for the Central. Before the trade, they didn't have much of a chance. I'm sure Chill is pissed, haha.
Erm, they're only like three games out. And St. Louis is right behind them. And don't forget about the Wild Card. They're waaaaay still alive.

As for the Brewers resigning Sabbathia, not going to happen. His agent already said he's going to take the lefty to the market and there will be a bidding war between the Yanks and Red Sox at least. There is no way Milwaulkee stays in that.

Same goes for Sheets. Word is that he will at least test the market, so he could be gone, too.

However, either way, the Brewers seem content to take their five draft picks as compensation for the two (should they both leave).

So I took a look at what CC FA value will be in the off-season based on WAR. I used his 2008 Marcels projections to substitute for 2008. I'll take another look at it once this season is over. Anyways, if he were to get a 5-year contract, this is what he should be looking at:
5/$124.85

Year-by-year:
09: $25.82265939
10: $25.70292533
11: $25.30501787
12: $24.57449965
13: $23.44882762

That's given a 10% inflation and a .5 WAR decline per season. Let's change as to where he'd decline by .3 WAR his 1st two seasons and by .5 the other 3 seasons, which seems more likely given his age, body type, and injury history:

5/$135.705

year-by-year:
09: $26.79065939
10: $27.83252533
11: $27.64757787
12: $27.15131565
13: $26.28332522

Just from that, it's pretty easy to see CC will be the highest paid pitcher ever by next year. Zito got a 7/$126, so let's see what CC would get in 7 years:

7/$182.9666598

year-by-year:
09: $26.79065939
10: $27.83252533
11: $27.64757787
12: $27.15131565
13: $26.28332522
14:$24.97422354
15:$22.28703275

As disappointing as this season has been and trading CC, LaPorta is supposed to be fine. It's just depressing trading CC because we have had him since he was a baby. It's fine. Cliff Lee can be the new ace and hopefully Fausto can come back too. LaPorta is supposed to be hell of a player. I just hope we don't completely rebuild.

I can understand that.

That's how I felt when A-Rod and Junior left.

Sucks.

Hope that never happens with Felix Hernandez, wish the M's would sign him through like 2015 or something.

It's not very smart to call Cliff Lee an ace.
