Craigslist scam?

I put my iPod up for sale on Craigslist but generally am inexperienced with online purchasing.

I received this message from Craigslist and am wondering if anyone here knows if this would be a scam or not. I want to make sure obviously as I don't want to get robbed by some crook.

"How are you doing? I would like to let you know that I have gone through your posting and ready to buy it. As far as there will not be any repairs on it, I am willing to offer you a sum of $170 for the item so that it could be packed properly, and the payment will be made through (USPS Money Order, delivery of cash) (Standard 2 Days delivery Service including money order tracking number provided by the USPS).. I am purchasing it for my friend's daughter wedding which coming up on the 13th July, 2008.

To proceed with the payment I will need your mailing address, city, zip code, state and likewise phone number. I also have a prepaid account with UPS or DHL which will take care of the shipping charge, so you will not need to pay for shipment. I will be looking forward to hearing you...ASAP"

This just seems phony to me. I am unfamiliar with USPS Money order, so I would not know how it works. Why would the buyer want to go that complicated if they lived close to me? It seemed fishy so I replied saying if she lived in New Jersey I could just drive it over to her. I got this message back.

"Am not in New Jersey, all you have to do is to get back to me with your full name and address so that i can forward it to USPS for the payment to be done which will be deliver to you by USPS postman...ok ????"

The lack of respect for security give me an uncomfortable feeling about this. The message came across as haughty, and the grammar was poor. I am leaning toward it being a scammer but was wondering if anyone here would know?

It's cliche but the "..."'s in the message make it seem incredibly suspicious.

Plus, Craigslist is suspicious all the time no matter what you're getting anyways.

Are you freakin' retarded? He's using the quotation marks to quote what the guy said....

And I wouldn't go through with it. Isn't the whole point of Craiglist to meet up with the person in order to avoid the scam?

Ah. My apologies, RTT. You are no longer in "you-know-who" status.

Does Craigslist protect you from scammers? I mean, say he goes for this, and the guy is a phony. Is he pretty much screwed?

I've decided I'm not going to sell to her as I'm more sure this is a scam than I feel safe about this. No point in going through with it when you feel you will get robbed. Sounds like everyone here saw this as something to be cautious with as well. Thanks for the help.
