http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3485488&campaign=rss&source=NBAHeadlines It was pretty much a done deal that Agent Zero would resign, but I guess they made it official today. He was offered the max (6 yrs, $127 mil) but he counter offered with a contract worth $111 mil over 6 years. He had said before that he would take less money if it could help the team sign another player... I guess he stayed true to his word. Dunno if he's being genuine or if it's for the publicity. I'd say a bit of both, but regardless of his motives, it's still a good gesture by Gil. Should be interesting to see who they go after now; they can't just sit around and do nothing... Arenas basically donated $16 mil to the team and I'm sure he expects them to use it wisely. |

Don't expect the Wiz to make a big splash in free agency this year...very little of the money Gil saved us is helpful this year. We can basically only sign players for the league minimum at this point, and Dee Brown is probably our last signee of the year. I wish there were some way we could trade for Artest, as he would shore up our depth at the 2 and 3 spots directly, and at the 1, 4 and 5 spots indirectly, plus give us a push towards contending for the title. |

True, it won't help them much this season since they are already close to if not over the salary cap. It does help out the franchise in the long run because as a result, they will most likely remain under the luxury tax, which allows them to save up more money for the future. They could still trade for a decent player with a slightly higher contract though... that's sort of what I expect them to do with the extra cash. |

We're about one minimum contract away from the luxury tax threshold; but, Abe Pollin is getting old and may only have a year or two left on Earth (just being realistic), so I think he will do anything it takes to win a title, which is why I'm thinking a trade of some kind is a possibility. And I reiterate, Artest, please? I dunno if we have the contracts to make it work, but I bet if we gave up Nick Young, Javale McGee, Etan Thomas, and a future pick or two they might bite. We'd be dangerous with Artest in our lineup PG- Gilbert Arenas SG- Ron Artest SF- Caron Butler PF- Antawn Jamison C- Brenden Haywood 6. DeShawn Stevenson, G 7. Andray Blatche, F/C 8. Antonio Daniels, PG 9. Darius Songaila, F 10. Dominic McGuire, F 11. Oleksiy Pecherov, F 12. Dee Brown, G |

You wouldn't have to give up much for Artest, he wants out of Sactown already, lol. |
