Papelbon wants to close All-Star Game
While the rest of baseball heaped praise on Mariano Rivera for his Hall of Fame career during Monday's All-Star media day, Jonathan Papelbon declared that he deserves to be the AL's ninth-inning man at Yankee Stadium Tuesday. "If I was managing the team, I would close," Papelbon said. "I'm not managing the team, so it don't matter." Papelbon, though, seemed to believe that Boston's championship a year ago not only ensured Terry Francona's place as the American League manager, but him being the closer. "We've both earned that right; us, by winning the World Series and having the opportunity of having our manager there and our team being represented, and Mariano by what he's done for this role, we're in Yankee Stadium and blah, blah, blah," Papelbon said. "It's not that easy. Everybody thinks it's a cut and dry answer, but it's not."

Throw Your Diamonds In The Air`!

What a fucking dunce.

EDIT: But you know what, since when should we look down on a player for being confident?

I hate how everyone is acting as if once Yankee Stadium is tore down all of the great Yankee memories will be gone or something. Please, get over it. This Yankee Stadium doesn't even have all of the great Ruthian memories, anyways. The whole thing was basically rebuilt in the 1970's from what I know.

I understand that people want to tribute Yankee Stadium, and that's cool. I appreciate all the history that was seen there, and I wish I could have seen a game there, but some of this is ODed.

As for Papelbon, he's an idiot.

Yea after he noticed what a complete dumbass he is, he retracted his comments and said that Mo should close it

But everyone knows he really meant what he said about him closing the all-star game.

Papelbon should be the 7th inning guy anyways. If he actually he thinks he deserves to close over Rivera and K-Rod then I guess he hasn't been following other teams....

Well, I'd take Paps over K-Rod 8 out of 10 times.

I would rather have Papelbon on my team, but if you're managing the all-star team you need to give K-Rod the edge just because of his ridiculous save total.

Especially since New Yankee Stadium is...an (almost) exact model of Current Yankee Stadium.
