Brandon Moss and Craig Hansen are hardly even prospects! Hansen has been trying to make it in the big leagues for the past 3 years now. How can you still call him a prospect? And even if he is a prospect, he is no $100 rock. He is a NEGATIVE. It's more like throwing out a dog that kept trying to bite your balls off and then another guy says, "Hey! I like getting my balls chomped on! I'll take him!". He's horrible. And Brandon Moss is 25 years old and average. It's not like we traded away guys who have potential here. These guys didn't have great value to our team, or any other team! That's what I said in my last post. We weren't going to get anything worth anything for Brandon Moss on his own and if we kept him past the deadline he just would've turned into a 26 year old "prospect". I think lots of people would agree that having a 30 year old Jason Bay for at least 1 and a half seasons is better than having a 36 year old Manny for a half and Brandon Moss for his whole career. |

No, I mean to (I guess I should add a :sarcasm: here). And who the hell do I "debate" here? No one even posts. The only thing I can reply to are RTT's mentally retarded, all caps posts. Yeah, I'd probably do that.....
Eh, I don't feel very insulted. Edited by sportslover, Sun Aug 3, 2008 2:28 pm.

I'm not even interested in baseball anymore nor have I had much time to get online, so that's my reasoning. |

Again, you're missing the point. To the Dodgers they still had some value otherwise they would have just asked for Manny alone. |

1) The Pirates got these 2 players 2) You're missing the point that these players weren't going to get the Red Sox anything. They aren't valuable enough to trade on their own to get anything good. Your entire argument of Hansen must have good value because another team would take him is just foolish. What if the Pirates said "give us 2 players" and the Red Sox threw those 2 at them because they had no value to the Red Sox? If there is no where else to trade Hansen and Moss, and they have no place on the Red Sox, and they are never going to have any place on the Red Sox, obviously they aren't all that valuable. Teams were not knocking down the door to get these guys. Teams did not want these guys. The Red Sox could've taken a load of shitty "prospects" for Manny and said "well, these players sucked on their old teams, but we will take them so that makes them valuable," but that would just be stupid. Just because a team will take them doesn't mean they have any great value and it doesn't mean the Red Sox could've gotten better for them. I'd take a stick of used chewing gum for Craig Hansen and like I said, most people would take at least 1 and a half seasons of Jason Bay over a half season of Manny and Brandon Moss for his whole career. |

I never said they had "good" value, I said value. Why would the Pirates or Dodgers just say give us two players, any two? And why would the Red Sox, in response, send them two players in the top 30 of their prospects. Again, they had some value to other clubs and it's obvious that the value to those clubs was/is higher than the value to Boston. Why are you arguing about this? We're agreeing that the Sox didn't need them and were willing to give them up. All I'm saying is that Boston, because of Manny's tantrum, didn't get good value for HIM. |

I think Bay is good value for Manny considering contract issues and age. And I don't think giving Craig Hansen (who wasn't a top 30 prospect in the Red Sox system) and Brandon Moss makes the deal any worse for the Sox. |

I agree with Yankee to some extent. But the fact is, Manny had become a problem with the management. It had become personal rather than business in trading him. I'm sure if Manny had just minded his own business this season the Red Sox would never have done the trade. |
