the wall and manny just went together. he doesn't have range and he didn't need it in fenway. he just had a great arm and he played the balls off the wall perfectly.

Then that means Carlos Lee is one of the best defensive OF in the game also ( Crawford Boxes ).. and we all know that just isn't true.

UZR, which is park adjusted, has Manny as one of the worst defensive OF in the game... :nocomprende:

And how do you know Manny just plays the wall so much better than anyone out there, when you don't ever get to see any other player for more than 3 games?

How do you know Manny plays the wall the best out of any Sox LF after Yaz? Have you watched every single game that every single Red Sox LF has played? Could you compare and contrast their weaknesses?

and anyone who thinks PITTSBURGH got the best part of this deal is out of his or her mind. before last year bay was a .285-100-35-100 guy on a horrible team and now after one down year he's back to that level and he finally gets to play with some talented players.

I agree that Bay is more valuable than Manny. Yes.

and what does pitt get? umm... an overrated 3rd base prospect who has proven a great ability to get injured... a dime a dozen class A pitching prospect... a reliever who was never going to do jack shit in boston... and brandon moss, who will probably be the best player they get in the deal and his potential is to be an average MLB hitter.

WHAT A HAUL!!

In other words, more than: b) 2 draft picks which they would get after next season, b)more than the Rays were offering, and C)more than the Braves were offering, d)more than what they would get for him during next season's deadline, when he'd be a rental.

Out of the past 4 seasons, Manny has finished last in the majors in RZR 3 out of those 4 seasons, and the only time he didn't....he was 3rd to last!

Source: Manny asked to stay with Sox
Of all the Manny moments in Boston, the last ranks as one of the most confounding. Within an hour after Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein informed Manny Ramirez he had been traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday, Ramirez's agent, Scott Boras, called the Sox back, according to a source with direct knowledge of the negotiations. If the Sox dropped the option years on his contract - which they had agreed to do if they traded him - Boras said Ramirez would not be a problem the rest of the season. For the Sox, the source said, Ramirez's pledge of good behavior only served as a tacit admission that his disruptive conduct of the last couple of weeks had been calculated, and they had had good cause to suspect more was in the offing if they did not trade him. The Sox told him thanks but no thanks, what was done was done, and pack plenty of sunscreen.

And anyone that actually believes the Red Sox didn't get raped in this deal is either an idiot or delusional.

Red Sox fleeced in Manny deal?
For years, the Red Sox have not been able to deal Manny Ramirez because they couldn't receive fair market value for him. And you know something? They didn't get it this time. But I'll give the Red Sox credit for this: They made an organizational determination -- the players, the manager, the front office, the owners -- that this Ramirez disturbance was different and far more volatile than the others and perhaps would linger. There's no denying that the Red Sox gave up far more than they hoped to make this deal happen with the Dodgers and Pirates. They gave up Brandon Moss, one of the most popular players among the brass and manager Terry Francona. They gave up Craig Hansen, one of their recent first-round draft picks, who has all the potential in the world, but somehow couldn't get it done. A year from now, we may all be saying: How on earth could they have given up on Manny and a good player like Moss and a good young reliever like Hansen for Jason Bay? But that just goes to show you how dire the situation with Ramirez had become before the Sox shipped him to the Dodgers at the trade deadline today.

Yup, that's a top 3 defensive left fielder.

Torre, "the highest paid manager in baseball":

Quote:

"To me, Juan certainly deserves the right to play," Torre said. "At this point in time, his experience, his consistency, the way he goes about his business. When [Rafael] Furcal went down, he's meant so much to the club. He brings another dimension, his basestealing ability. He gives a professional at-bat on a regular basis. He's done it [leading off] longer than Matt. He's willing to take pitches.

That's why Kemps P/PA have been higher than Pierre's the past couple of years. :rotfl:

And for those that have any doubts that Manny is a terrible fielder, here are his UZR numbers AT HOME:

mgl

07: -15 (per 150) in 51 games
06: -28 (per 150) in 48 games
05: -11 (per 150) in 80 games
04: -15 (per 150) in 51 games

Total of -17 per 150 in 230 games.
