After I found out the details of the trade, I am 1000X more happy about this deal. I figured we were giving up Fields, Broadway, Poreda, Getz, Richard, or a minor leaguer that was actually valuable to us. Richar has been injuried and can't even hack in in AAA, and Masset is terrible.
I really dont think we need Griffey, but the fact that we gave up NO ONE and I also heard that Cinci is paying the remainder of Griffey's contract, I am happy. Its a no-risk, medium reward deal. He can only hurt us in the field, but will help out the hitting and fanbase.
How will he help your hitting? And the two teams are splitting the remainder of the contract, along with the $4 mil buyout. You did give up someone, which is more than you should give up for someone of Griffey's talent level. Griffey is a replacement level player. Those types of players warrant the league minimum, which is $400 k. Meanwhile you'll be paying him 1/2 of 1/3 of $12.5 mil, which is $2, along with $2 next year, and you're getting nothing from him next season. The White Sox are losing $3,600,000 in equity right there. The Reds gain $4 mil which they would have had to pay Griffey, along with say $10 million for both prospects (say they're each worth $5 mil during their time with the Reds, which is a solid estimate considering Law sees Richar as a utility player and Masset as a reliever). That's about $12 million dollars they gain on the trade, considering they'll have to pay the two prospects very little money for the next +6 years. It's
He will help our hitting because Griffey>>Konerko.
That is not true. When you consider true talent, Konerko has a better projected (projections -- which are a measure of true talent)wOBA than Griffey. That's not even considering the amount of runs Griffey is going to cost Chicago. This is a stupid deal by the Sox.
Ok.
You can say ok all you want, but it doesn't matter if you don't support your claim.
I think its a good move because the 2 players traded have absolutely no value, while Griffey still has some, and I also think Griffey is doing better than Konerko at this point. But there is no point in aruging with you because you are so frustrating to argue with, so I am not even going to get myself worked up, so I will just pretend to agree with you and then its over.
I'm frustrating to argue with because I'm objective? Griffey has no value. In the long run, the 2 other plays have more value than him. Can you not understand that? Yeah, Nick Masset and his 5.63 career ERA is going to have a lot of value....maybe for opponents he faces.
And I bet Danny Richar, who has been injuried by the way, was really going to provide a huge impact for us when Gordon Beckham is sitting on the bench behind Richar and his sub .230 batting average. Give me a break.

All these two dudes have to dude is be replacement level players for ONE season and they've already double Griffey's value. Give me a break.
Either way......YOU'RE TRADING FOR A REPLACEMENT LEVEL PLAYER. IN OTHER WORDS, YOU'RE TRADING FOR SOMETHING WHICH YOU CAN FREELY FIND ON THE OPEN MARKET. THAT IS THE DEFINITION OF RETARDED.

I am so fuckin pissed this shit sucks. Jocketty must be bricklayin. this type of bullshit makes me not want to go to any reds games the rest of the year. there is no point.
and we did not get a thing. a player who maximum is as a utility player. and a pitcher who is only good if you like high scoring games.
the reds gave up on the season. so i will too.
good luck to the kid in chitown. great trade for the sox giving up a bag of coconuts for a player who is totally capable of raking especially in a park that suits him like the cell.
I will be rooting for the chicago white sox to win the world series the rest of the year. maybe i will head there and watch jr a few times too.

I have to give it up to the Sox on this trade.
Griffey is a huge upgrade offensively to Brian Anderson. He put up a .945 and .868 OPS the last two full seasons he played. While Jr. may have started this season slow, he has really picked up his play as of late.
Last 7 games= 1.072 OPS Last 14 games= 1.071 OPS Last 28 games= .944 OPS
Most people around the Reds say Griffey Jr was playing unmotivated for most of this season. Going to a World Series contender will at least rejuvenate him to putting up better numbers than he has for this season as a whole.
He hits the teams the Sox will play the most the rest of this season very well. Cleveland= .916 OPS Detroit= .878 OPS Kansas City= .947 OPS Minnesota= .940 OPS
Just because he is 38 and hasn't had his capable season this year does not mean he is washed up. Jim Edmonds is probley the most comparable situation in Baseball and he has led the best offense in the MLB in Slugging for the last 2 months.
