With him, Zum, and Willis, they'll start the year with $25-30mil not on the field. Add another $10+ if Bondo sits. Season ticket base down 40%. $140mil in payroll. Gonna be a long summer for the kitties |

But they owe him a ton of money. If he's healthy, I actually thought he had an outside chance of putting together a solid year. At least as good as Thames would do... |

If the Tigers knew they were going to cut him, they didn't use him for the publicity of his 500th. I think the organization would be blatantly rude if Sheff hit his 500th on opening day and we cut him after the game. This, I feel, is showing that we aren't going to use him much like the Giants used Bonds. (Given Bonds could hit and get walks, but they defininately milked the publicity) |

His preference is the Tama Bay Rays. Yeah, good luck with that, Gary! http://www.freep.com/article/2009033...018/1050/rss15 |

Sheff in his prime had simply amazing bat speed. The way he could whip that thing around in the blink of an eye made him really fun to watch. And for Pete's sake keep it low or it's going out. The money aside, it's still bittersweet to see players age beyond their utility especially in the context of such relatively short careers and with memories of their youth so clear. Guy had a mouth but who cares? Fun to watch. |
