Usuallly around this time of year I find myself constantly tuning into SportsCenter and ESPN News, trying to wade my way though all the college hoops crap to get my baseball fix. This year, I hardly EVER turn on ESPN. I wonder how many one-dimensional (i.e. baseball only) fans out there are like me and have decided to tune out ESPN? Besides the nonstop baseball action, I also think the MLB guys run rings around ESPN's baseball crew. Harold Reynolds, Al Leiter, Sean Casey and Matt Vasgergian give great interviews and keep things lively. In my opinion they beat the crap out of Karl (I love the Yankees) Ravich, Buster Olney and John Kruk. Gammons is good, and I can take Tim Kurkjan in small doses. On the negative side, Mitch Williams is a meathead like Kruk. But overall, I still like the MLB crew much better. What do you think? Do you agree MLB coverage is MUCH better than ESPN's? |

I'm with you. I now avoid "Sportscenter" altogether. If I want baseball news, I go to MLB. Football? NFL Network. Now I don't have to waste my time watching NASCAR/PGA/NBA/TENNIS garbage and can get just what I want. Plus I agree, most of the MLB guys are superior. I still like Gammons, but he's hardly ever on. And during the season, I can't stand BASEBALL TONIGHT because I never know when it's going to be on, and then they seem to run abbreviated versions all the time. BYE BYE ESPN - Hello MLB NETWORK!!!! |

I don't see eye-to-eye with you MLB Network's crew. Hazel Mae, Matt V (he's been dead wrong on rules in the past), Harold Reynolds (cool guy, won't touch advanced statistics), Al Leiter, Sean Casey-- analyst wise-- this just doesn't cut it for me. It's still a very useful network for many reasons, but the analysim is not top notch though. ESPN has more idiots, but Peter Gammons and Tim Kurkijan are very useful resources. I enjoy listening to those 2, but anyone else in the Baseball department, forget it. I get the visual stuff I need on both networks (definitely MLB Network when Gammons/Kurkijan aren't on ESPN) and my analyzing via the Internet and me personally watching games. |

Both crews are full of morons, though at least the MLB Network tries, from what I hear, but better analysis isn't really what makes them better than BBT. Regardless, I still like listening to the more traditional point of view, as long as it's provided logically, and from the little I've seen, the dudes from MLBN do that much better, and don't just spew crap (sometimes) like Kruk and his gang. I wish I had the MLB Network. Edited by SL, Fri Apr 3, 2009 3:26 pm.
