From watching 2006-2008, and then a small part of this season, here is what I got: Fastball: CC, Kazmir Curveball: Bedard Slider: CC Change: Santana, honorable mention to Hamels Cutter: Lester Kazmir's slider circa 2006 and 2007 is right there with CC's, but he didn't use it much in 2008. He says it's back for 2009, but we'll see. |

FB: a healthy Billy Wagner Slider: it's not what it used to be, but it's still Randy Johnson Change: behind the incomperable Santana, I'd say Okajima |

Good call on Lilly's curve. I would have said Zito, and still may at some point this season, but until he gets his stuff together, I'm reserving judgment. Regarding Wagner and Okajima - good calls, but I was mostly concerned with starters. I agree that Randy's slider is still pretty devastating. I think if you're talking about relievers, Matt Thornton has to be in the discussion for fastballs. I think that JP Howell has the best lefty sinker of anyone pitching right now, so he deserves mention if we're talking about relievers. |
