-- Bent on strengthening their erratic offense, the Giants obtained first baseman Ryan Garko from the Cleveland Indians on Monday for Class A left-hander Scott Barnes.

Garko, 28, was batting .285 with 11 home runs and 39 RBIs in 79 games for Cleveland. His .826 OPS (on base-plus-slugging percentage) exceeded that of any Giants player except Pablo Sandoval. Garko bats and throws right-handed.

Barnes, 21, owned a 12-3 record with a 2.85 ERA and 99 strikeouts in 98 innings for the Giants' San Jose affiliate.

The Giants began Monday ranked next-to-last in the National League in scoring and are coming off a 3-7, three-city trip in which they scored 23 runs.

I am a Ignorant Nazi Ass

Big improvment offensivley at first for the Giants, Ishikawa was shit and Aurrelia was fucking god awful. Defensivley Ishikawa was having a very good year saving his team 9.2 runs (using UZR), putting up that kind of UZR at first is crazy. Garko is having a good year at first defensivley as well, tho, I am more concerned about his past two years of - UZR's in which he had more playing time, Garko overall is not a good fielding first basemen at all while Ishikawa is the opposite.

I pretty much like how Fan Graphs summed up the trade for the Giants.

Quote:

He replaces Travis Ishikawa, who is certainly an inferior player to Garko, but not without his uses. Ishikawa’s a solid fielder, which helps make up a bit for his lack of offense, but Ishikawa shouldn’t be starting for a contending team. However, since he’s not a total black hole, this upgrade seems fairly minor. Especially over just two months, the upgrade from Ishikawa to Garko is in the fractions of a win.

Scott Barnes was the Giants 9th best prospect according to baseball america, this dosent hurt the Giants at all tho since they arent starving for pitching in the farm or currently at the mlb level.
