Beriadan Beast slayer

Chapter 1
Bearous and the Brayherd

The quite twang of a bow was heard, followed by the whelp of a beast in pain and the rustle of the foliage as it collapsed. Hidden high up in a tall dark twisted tree hides Beriadan a Noble of the Asrai. He was sent forth by Aldaelo lord of the Coeth-Mara to hunt down a small party of Beastmen. This beast is the third Gor that Beriadan has slain. Hiding in the trees moving from branch to branch his cloak camouflaging him from the unwanted eyes of the Beastmen below. He is applying all the skill he has learnt in all his 230 years. Beriadan is rather young and already obtains a high position within Asrai society. He is being groomed for Lordship as one of the highborn. The task he is currently set on is not urgent but rather to test his ability to track, kill and survive in the wild. Unknown to Beriadan and Aldaelo something will discovered that may start a war. Beriadan has been gone all of three weeks now and he’s still not found the bray shaman that has been rumoured to be in the area. Only being sent out to hunt down and kill a party or Gors killing a bray shaman would bring him great honour and even more respect from his peers in the halls of Coeth-Mara. Three days ago a young Asrai told him a tale of a bray shaman called Bearous whom harassed the locals living within the woods around the hall of Equos. The bray shaman would use magic to cause great destruction and set the woods ablaze.

Beriadan believes following the direction of the beastmen he’s been tracking will lead him to Bearous where he may find and slay the shaman. Beastmen in this part of the woods are generally not very organised because of the heavy Asrai presence in this area of the woods. One memory keeps coursing its way through Beriadans mind, of the young Asrai girl saying “the woods are dark and full of terror,” as Beriadan continues to travel east the woods continue to get darker and full of more and more twisted trees. Its been a week since he had slain the last Gor and he has sited none he moves on the ground following tracks of Gors and Ungors as he moves yet further east the tracks continue to become fresher he is close on their tail. The sun is setting and begins to fall, When Beriadan spots with his elf eyes a unused outpost. There are many of these through out Athel-Lorien nothing more then a well-hidden platform in a tree it provides protection against some of the more twisted creatures that lurk in the forest.

Beriadan climbs the tree nimbly, quickly he doesn’t stumble nor does he slip he is up the tree in a matter of seconds. He wraps himself in he dark green cloak and falls into a deep sleep. He slept long but his dreams where disturbed he dreamed of a glade lit by a purple light he dreamed he was getting closer to the glade and he could see that his path was cut off by a purple vortex. He woke from his dreams it was still dark the moon had crossed over half way in the sky, he guessed that is was about 2:3o in the morning this guess is not far off elves are excellent at using astronomy to tell the time. He gazed out over the top of the tick canopy of leaves disturbed by his dream.
