Hiya Ian..how are you??
I'm having a nightmare here..this bloody laptop is stupidly slow..I'm sick of it..Ive been pondering over a PC for a while now..theres a Dell on offer at Tesco..I'm for it at the weekend..just made my mind up..
I wish I could come up and have a go on your Laptop Karen, I've learnt so many tricks to increase performance, but Its just so hard to explain them on here :(
Give it a go Chris..I'm listening..I'll understand..I'm not the best on a computer,,,but I'm not the worst either..
Well its hard without actually looking at it, but: -It could be your anti virus (what have you got?) -You could have a lot of spyware / adware on there also, which is basically loads and loads of little bugs that spy on yuor pc, and slow your system down. There are a few programs to download to help such as "Spybot - Search & Destroy" or "Lavasoft - Adaware" -Could have a lot of processes running, this can be quite risky, but right click on the start toolbar, and bring up task manager, i have 19 processes running.. its quite easy to "end task" BUT be extremely careful as some of them are needed lol, you can only really be sure about a handful of them, and if you do shut any down, make sure the "user" is your login, and NOT system. Hope that helps, feel free to ask questions :)
Ok cheers Chris.. In reply.. I have Norton..I'm fully aware of the pit falls of Norton..but I wouldn't be without it.. James..VBM..laughs at the level of security I have..therefore..spyware / adware isn't an issue.. I do disk clean up regularly and defrag.. I often delete any programmes I no longer use..the trouble is I think..is that the memory on this laptop isn't that big.. anymore advice now you know all that??
Ok, yeah I wont go too much into detail with NOrton cos i know nothing, aand you know more on it than i do
If you do get a new PC, some good options would Kaspersky, Its very highly rated, also Sophos is used a lot in businesses, thats what i have, you dont even notice its running, its brilliant!!
I really cant thin of anything that might help at the moment Karen, but I will do a bit of research into if you like?
