just wait until you've had a mortgage for a few years and then you get divorced and the solicitors/mediators/judge etc decide that your ex needs more money in the future to get by so they get the lions share of any leftover equity.. banghead

Im good thanks, just done an exam this morning - GCSE English, I got paid just over £25 for 3 hrs work, woohooo!!!!

Mar - can you not try and find a mortgage that allows you to re-arrange the terms in 2/3 years or lets you take out a mortgage elsewhere after a minimum term? Just a thought as the economy should hopefully have picked up in 2/3 years and you might find better deals around then.

Yes that is what I do James, we are currently on a 2 year discounted rate mortgage, it runs out in June, I have been offered a 3 year fixed rate at 5.75%....its the best of a bad bunch at the moment, im going to try again next week as they said they may have a few better deals in then....fingers crossed.

Good stuff, someone has just said they are buying their first house on a 40 year mortgage. To me the term of that is very long, I personally wouldnt want that.

How old are they?

You have to do what you can afford....we still have 29 years left on ours, not ideal but thats the only way we could afford it when we moved to this house and got a loft conversion.

23....

My sister managed to get hers on a 25 year mortgage, im hoping I can do the same as I have some savings to put down and hopefully it will lower the risk and so the banks will be willing to offer better rates.
