How should elections work? How often and for how long? How can elected officials be removed from office? |

On Recall: How about a 2/3 vote of the FA to remove someone from office. That makes it more difficult to remove someone. There should also be some guidelines to what someone can be removed from office for. On elections: I will defer to people who have been on NS longer to say how long is a reasonable time for someone to hold an office. |

Elections should last one week, candidates should be able to appeal to the Federal Court for a, at maximum, one week extension based on the proportion of votes and active members (those who have been active, say, in the past month). Let's say 50% of possible votes cast will be an acceptable number. (These numbers are highly arbitrary and can change.) The number of elections should be concurrent to the position and how much it should be able to rotate. Let's say the highest executive would be less likely to rotate simply because they operate much of the region's security apparatus; whereas, a representative's position is more likely to rotate and thus its elections should be held at a higher frequency. Let's say that the high executive would have elections every 4 months and the representative will have elections every month. Recalls should work as a vote of no confidence in the Federal Assembly similar to what Seaside has suggested. First, the motion should be proposed by a Representative and approved by the leader of the Federal Assembly (to prevent 'spamming' by certain people) and voted on by all Representatives. Two-thirds of the Federal Assembly voting in the affirmative (Yeas vs. Nays and Abstains) seems like a good number. |

Good stuff Muscovite! I like the idea of the lower positions being voted on more often that Muscovite proposed. My one concern is if you have too many elections I think it could lead to some level of apathy about voting sometimes. If people feel like they are constantly being forced to vote almost every week they may get tired of it. I think we would just need to really stick to a good schedule to avoid this problem. I'm not sure how I feel about extending the length of elections for the lower positions just because it could almost take up one quarter of a term. I like it for the higher positions though. |

I have a new idea when holding elections. We split the year into quarters for Delegate elections meaning that the Delegate's term lasts 3 months, meaning we have 4 elections per year. We have the same amount of elections per year for Ministerial positions but elected ministers terms only last 2 months.(keep following) Say the Delegate is elected at the end of june, s/he takes office at the begining of july. S/he appoints the ministerial positions for 1 month, the first month of their term. For the last 2 months of the Delegate's term the ministers are elected.(still with me?) This gives us an indication as to the people the Delegate thinks would do a great job as a minister. This also gives us an indication as to wheather or not the people the Delegate appoints are good enough. The appointed ministers are given a month to prove their worth before the election. Those who are elected will stay be in office for the remainder of the Delegate's term(assuming they're not recalled) Thoughts on this idea? Edited by Zander, May 26 2012, 03:28 PM.

I like the idea, I think it could be workable. |
