(rp) Preparing For The Governor
Topic Started: Aug 11 2007, 02:21 AM (458 Views)
Baron Grommits
Mayor of Vector
[ * * * ]
Baron Grommits was settling in for his evening meal when Abdu'l, the tall mute slave showed another slave in. The man, much shorter, was sent by the Marquess. He frowned, why didn't Tiberias come himself... Was he losing favour? He shoved the last of his grilled salmon into his mouth, motioning for the slave to begin his message.

The man spoke, "Sir, the honorable Marquess Tiberias wishes you to know that Mr. Howard has arrived. He is concerned about the village and the seeming lack of obvious preparation. He asks that you immediately begin work, for the governor will not set foot into the city until tomorrow." Grommmits blanched. The slave bowed low and left again.

The Baron's stomach lurched, threatening to spill the food it had only finished consuming. William reflected on the tragedy that would be done to his breath if he vomited salmon. Blech.

Steadying himself he attempted to come to terms with what he had just heard. The Governor was already here? He thought he was due next month. He looked to Abdu'l. "Did you know it was this month." Abdu'l nodded once. "Why didn't you say something?" Abdu'l glared hard.

"Alright, alright. Not funny and stop wasting time. I get it. Quickly, bring me the horse." Abdu'l looked surprised. "No, I know it isn't refined, but the carriage is too slow. Please, yell for DePenn too." This time Abdu'l didn't respond, but to roll his eyes when Grommits wasn't watching. Why his master chose to make fun of his muteness at such a time was beyong him. Still, he was used to it, so he wouldn't say anything this time.

William fetched his own jacket and prepared to ride. Another slave brought him a box of flags. He walked through the door, held for him by his final slave to find Abdu'l waiting, while his stallion, pure black, drank deeply from the trough.

Mounting his horse, he took off about town, shouting, calling, and cursing to get the attention of the people. His own slaves set out to clean the square, littered and trampled from the recent militia training. He barged into the hotel, rifle in hand, both revolvers on his hips. "Bonaccord! Get this place tip-top, every guest in their finest. The governor comes down tomorrow and if anyone ruins it," he thumped the gun into this hands, "I will destroy them." He threw open his box upon the hotel desk. "I want a flag from every window. They're all British and the French are a sore subject with the King right now, so no funny business."

William hopped upon his horse, which he had rode into the lobby, and went back out. He demanded anyone who could help to do so, and quickly.

David sighed as the Baron walked out. He'd left mud all over the rug. More work, he said.

He went upstairs, and draped the Union flag from every window except Jean's, who he knew would not take it nicely. He had a flagpole on the top, and he hoisted the flag of the 12-year old Union of England, Wales and Scotland.

However, secretly he had the triple fleur-de-lis in his room. Oh, how he longed to be in Louisiana right now.

While he was scrubbing the rug, and removing the mess left by the Baron's horse, he stuck a notice on the door.

'Can all guests be dressed presentably and well for the arrival of the governor. Or else risk destruction by His Baroncy. - Management'.

Jean walked from his room dressed in the clothing he had recieved from the Baron during his stay. He was still properly clean and had used a pilfered razor to keep his shave up. With a small piece of lace used to keep his hair in a proper pony-tail; he also had his sword hanging properly from his side.

"Eye cannot wait to meet this silly little governor. I shall recieve him here, I think..."

Lord Aberdeen had a pistol in his jacket. He was going to try and protect the governor at all costs. He himself was scared a killer might try and kill the governor and Aberdeen knew he wouldn't let that happen.

Governor Howard

The Baron escorted the Governor through the towne square, thanking the Lord that DePenn had left the streets, but disturbed to see that two other men had taken his place. They seemed to identify the money crowd, for they made a line for the 3 men, but Grommits signaled Abdu'l who easily swept the two away.

The Governor watched the spectacle, "Beggars in such a small town? Well, not to be surprised, I suppose, is it? Still, a bit disturbing you don't have them arrested isn't it? Tell me, this town does have a hall, does it not?"

The Baron indicated that there was not yet, but it was planned.

Howard clicked his tongue. "Well, I suppose we can't have it all, can we? I do say though, a town isn't truly a town until a hall is built. A bit disappointing really."

The group of men entered the hotel, seeing DePenn and Dietrich waiting to meet them. Howard also eyes Aberdeen, standing tall with his hand in his jacket. There seemed something regal about this man too, but he obviously had fallen on hard times, living in such a place, in such shabby clothing.

He gazes around and selected Mr. DePenn as the most likely to greet first. "Good day, sir. I am the governor Howard. May I have your acquaintance?"

At Aberdeen's words the governor flushes with anger. "I do hope that I am not the great fool you are refering to?" He stuck a finger out and grasped the clothing hanging from Aberdeen's body. "Who would guess you are a noble, when you dress like my common slaves? At least this man is dressed in his finest."

Suddenly, Mr. Dietrich came shoving Aberdeen out of the way, "Uh, well; I suppose. Yes, show the way!"

Marquess of Tiber

It did not matter now. Baron Grommits trained both of his concealed pistols upon Aberdeen, while DePenn now blocked the governer entirely, his sword drawn.

"No funny business Aberdeen. It shall take many more than one shot to kill me." said DePenn with a frightening aire, "Put it down and I shall spare you."

Father Francisco De Haro

As Father De Haro was walking into the town square he was faced with a frightening scene. Weapons were drawn and the air was tense. No stranger to danger from his army days, the Father rushed to the scene.

"Gentlemen, gentlemen! In Christ's name I demand you desist at once! Any issue you may have can surely be resolved in a more peaceful or honorable manner than a street fight. This is all likely a misunderstanding, let us calm our tempers and not let Satan's wrath invade us."

Sir Tiberias
Marquess of Tiber

The governor shrieked with anger, but held his tongue. His face turning purple with anger. In an instant the Baron scooped him up and carried him from the room while the Marquess covered their escape.

DePenn stepped forward, his sword heavy in his hand. It had been years since he had learned the sword in his father's mansion, but he was certain he could defeat this man.

The moment of truth was at hand.
