Summer, 537 Sanctum... the City founded 196 years ago as a safe haven may as well be the centre of the universe as far as the masses are concerned. Few of them know of anything beyond the fortified city and the surrounding farms. It has just been safer that way. The world is not the place it once was. But all that is beginning to change. After a century of just trying to survive, the City has started to flourish. While far from perfect, there are enough tradesmen and agriculture to ensure the prosperity of most people who call Sanctum home. It should not come as any surprise that the current Council within Sanctum is pushing to explore the world they have only heard tales about from traders and travellers. Sanctum’s council, lead by Chancellor Sera is formed of the eight most influential and powerful members of the city. Three council seats are reserved for the heights of the founding human nobility, often standing opposed to the egocentric views of the gentry is a single elected representative from the Arcanists, the Archmagi Ylva Reinhild, the Merchants, and the Tradesmen. The two remaining seats on the Council are occupied beings who are more than human, the most notable between them Armand D’Amore, an ancient being who is feared as much as he is respected. The shift of power between the Council members is almost constant, but the one thing they have managed to agree to in the last decade is that it is time to cement Sanctum’s place in the greater world. Whatever that greater world happens to be. To that end, a seemingly endless stream of resources has been poured into building a small fleet of sailing ships. The fleet stands only months from completion. Overseeing every detail has been the fleet’s future Commander and Captain of the Overedge, the explorer, Otto Lind. While Sanctum lives under the constant protection of Knight Commander Orphae Lith’arn of The Order and the new Captain of the City Guard. Most of the Merchants and Nobles turn to the various Mercenaries in the City to get things done. For those who can afford his services, Captain Mercer and his Vanguard Company is at the top of everyone’s list. For those less then reputable dealings, rumour is the notorious Bastard would murder his own mother for the right price. Despite the push from the Council to charter the world beyond the safety of the valley and to pull back the veil, there will always be those who are content exactly where they are. Whichever way your taste run. Be sure to keep an eye on the City Guard Wanted Board, and the Adventurer Requests. It is also never too late to register with the Exploration League, express your interest in joining the Vanguard Company, or try to draw the attention of The Order. |
