CROSS COUNTA!!!
|
"TINY" TERR Alignment: Lawful Evil Gender: Male(?) Age: ??? Occupation: Golden Halycron Merc Residence: Wherever he comes to rest APPEARANCE Height: 8' 2" Weight: Between 1 and 2 tons Build: Tall and strangely lanky Origins: He says he was resurrected by Gaia, but who knows Race: Undead Golem Eye Colour: Pale blue and glowing Hair Colour: "Like black roots" Unique Features: He's a giant stone golem Full Appearance: Terr is easily picked out of a crowd, and not just because he easily stands head and shoulders above everyone else. He is human in shape, save for the fact that he is over eight feet tall and is made of stone. His proportions seem slightly off than a normal person though. His whole body would seem emaciated if he had flesh, and his arms and legs are a little longer when compared to his body. He seems to be composed of rich, black soil and stone; rough to the touch and with the occasional crumb of dirt flaking off of him when he moves. He wears no clothes(as if anything would fit him). No one really knows that Terr's face looks like because there is a stone mask seemingly permanently affixed to his face. It's a simple stone affair that sits on the front part of his head. The lines carved into it make it look like it's supposed to imitate several layers of bandages and wrappings around his head. A chunk of it is missing, exposing his only visible eye: an empty socket in his earthen head that holds a mysterious pale blue light. As for hair, it could be compared to dreadlocks hanging down to the middle of his back. They feel like tree roots and are adorned with a multitude of stone segments that click and clack together. PERSONALITY What use does a shambling golem have for wealth and riches? Whatever the answer, the beast is driven to acquire, collect, and steal all that shines and glitters. It would seem that compulsion, more than desire, is what motivates him. What dirt lies in his chest must function similarly to a heart because he finds no sport in murder, nor does he take from the already destitute. However, a hefty compensation for such services could sway him to take such measures. Pain, hunger, and sleep mean little to one who neither feels, eats, nor rests. Though when he awakes from his periodic deep hibernations, he seems both refreshed and annoyed. Perhaps sleep so deep reminds him of the quiet Dark. What life came before this undeath was left there too. He either does not care or remembers what he was, only that gold fueled his urge and that his jade arrow head must never be parted with. PERSONAL HISTORY Roof tops. Alleyways. Darkness. Unlatched windows and unwatched doors. Something glitters inside. Silent foot steps rush away. Glee and excitement. One step ahead of prying eyes. One with the shadows and a face hidden. Someone to steal for. A missed step? A treacherous friend? Arrogance and blindness? Wrong place, wrong time? Dark. Wilds. Body numb and vision blurry. Heavy. Heavy. Move. Walk. Return. Hunger for glittering. SKILLS Lockpicking - Despite having hands too large and unwieldy to actually use lock picking tools, Terr still retains the expert knowledge from his previous life. Night Vision - Dark makes the night seem as day. Terr can see perfectly with or without light. POWERS Undead Golem - Born of Dark and made of earthen stone, Terr is only a human in shape only. Even whatever little intangible remains of his former self is more Dark than man. There is nothing on his inside. What one sees on his outside--earth, stone, soil, rock--is what comprises his innards. He has no stomach, much less a mouth. He does not eat, he does no breathe the sweet fresh air, and there is no blood to squeeze from him. He can see, he can hear, and he can hurt. However, pain is such a small consequence after Death that it matters little to what remains of him. His body reacts as the soil on the ground. Fire and electricity may scald his surface or spark across his skin, but have little effect on him. Their lingering effects, however, may be a danger to anyone who comes in contact with him. Water trickles harmlessly over him as a stream hugs a mountain, but ice can seep deep within him and make him brittle and slow. Howling winds impact on his body, yet have little to effect. Edged weapons are in more danger of dulling themselves on him than him being effected. Piercing attacks have the tendency to become stuck in his dense form, or put holes in him. Crushing impacts can break his earthen body or take chunks out of him. He can function with parts of him missing. Said parts are gradually grown out of him over the course of days. Death is but a formality. After total destruction, Terr reforms somewhere out in the wilds over many days, retaining everything he experienced. They say it's warm there. Physical size means incredible strength (x10) at the cost of speed. POSSESSIONS Sunder - Terr's weapon of choice, besides his fists, Sunder is a giant stone scimitar that appears to be made out of white granite. It's six feet from pommel to blade tip, and not actually that sharp. The sheer weight of the weapon lets it crash through targets. Terr is able to wield it with one hand, usually his right hand. Its weight keeps it from being used by anyone else. Memory of a Girl - Perhaps the only thing that Terr "owns" that means anything to him. It is a small jade arrowhead with a silver tip that hangs around his neck. RELATIONSHIPS THREAD TRACKER Edited by Critical, Nov 3 2014, 09:21 PM.

So as it stands, you're looking at a character with 3+ milestones in him. Three of them are clear; 10x strength = 2 stones. Integrate (effectively a combat-regen), = 1 stone. However, the issue we, the staff, are facing is that your character is, essentially, far too durable for a 'starting level' character, to have these things built off of it. To quote one member who put it nicely;
To be immune to a wide bevvy of things, unable to be harmed by nearly everything else, lacking a need to breath, eat, sleep, bleed, or become fatigued, makes him a terrifying force with no offsetting weaknesses. There is no precedent for something quite like this~ nothing that really comes close, and we're not entirely sure how to go about dealing with it - but for what you have listed, even before getting into his regen / strength modifier, you'll probably be investing some milestones into having him be a rock-monster, the likes of which you've described. Haven't forgotten about you, just wanted to let you know where we're currently at with it. If you have any questions, suggestions, let us know; we're happy to work with you until we've figured out how to get this character into the world. |

How nice of you to put things nicely for me. I think it would cost more Milestones, yes, but probably not as much as you guys are thinking. I suspect a few of these can be lumped together under the power of him being a rock monster, for a Milestone or two. But I dunno. Maybe I'll wait the X amount of months it takes to make something that isn't just a "guy who can do one special thing". |

Ermahgerd... You have no idea how bad these really are. Everyone should have them listed as a weakness. But in all seriousness. Any character who has those kind of resistances and immunities is not going to be an every day, run of the mill character. We base everything off a standard human. If it is going to affect a character more or less than how it will affect Gary over there, then it becomes a balancing act. Massive utility, even in the form of resistances, on that scale is going to cost a lot of Milestones. So that you are on the same page with us in terms of what we value Milestones at, hopefully this will give you an idea.
The Milestone system is something we are constantly balancing, but the current stance on immunities and resistances is that they are extremely significant. For what he is, I estimated Tiny to be in excess of 6 Milestones ~ which is the bench mark for a fully fledged Lesser Elemental in any case (The price listing we set on things in the Origin guide takes into consideration everything something is intended to be or needs to be to be considered that thing specifically). There are a host of other problems with the character starting with 'how is it alive, and how can it be killed'. Unfortunately with a character like this, you are not going to see where the Milestones are being spent. He is not going to have an impressive array of abilities or flashy spell effects to his name to justify it. But any character who is intended to be immune to four, five or six whole Origins and sources of magic is going to cost a lot. At this stage I am going to encourage you to head back to the drawing board with this guy or wait until you have half a dozen Milestones to invest in everything he is intended to be. Some of the guys have come up with creative ways of building elemental characters at starting level. It may take some heavy rebalancing, and he may have to hold off on the Strength and regeneration for a while, but it is doable. |

Alright. I'll play the game. Lets say I take back the Strength and Integration powers. Getting back my 3 Milestones. How much un-kill-ability can I get for those same 3 Milestones? I'll stick with his Undead Golem race and make him really undying for now. |

Due to the extensive hours which have already been spent on this character on the Administrative side, I am going to ask you to please only include details in this thread and the character profile which are relevant to the character approval process. I tried to incorporate as much of the original character as I could in a three Milestone break down, and came at it from every angle I could to try and make it work. This is not a write up on the character’s abilities. It is a breakdown of everything the Milestones will and will not purchase for the character. You are more than welcome to copy any sections of this that you like.
All of these suggestions are still subject to character approval and we will ultimately balance what you put into the character profile. As a side note, Colossi are intended to be unknowable and from a completely different Origin to Terr. The skill he has to communicate with them is never going to be something he can use. |

Removing those sections of his profile are fine, but you still need to include all the details and limitations you want him to have. He still has no race description which answers nothing about the character and leaves a lot of room for assumption. I am looking for a list of everything that makes him different from a human. The power section in a character profile is your only way of explaining to us what you intend on the character to be able to do. We base everything off of a base human, if you do not list something as different we are going to automatically default your character to a human comparative.
Hopefully you can start to see how this becomes a problem. Terr's powers need to accurately reflect everything you intend for the character to have. |

Thank you Crit, Terr is starting to come together. I just have 2 edit requests. Could you please put in there somewhere that he is roughly 10x stronger than a human. I realise it is just numbers, but it is something we asked everyone to try and add for reference purposes. The second request is to remove the blanket use of ‘magic impact on his body, yet have little to effect’. It implies he could ignore all magic, not just the elemental forms you have listed. One final question: If Terr is sundered or torn apart, is he able to completely reform himself out of earthen materials of wherever his ‘core’ piece happens to be? |
