Mordecai the Sword of Sanctum

Alignment: Lawful Good
Gender: Male
Age: 21
Occupation: Mercenary
Residence: Formerly the Alentir estate on the edge of the Arboretum, currently whichever moderately reputable inn he finds himself near when the day draws to a close.

APPEARANCE

Height: 6'3"
Weight: 194lbs
Build: Well built
Origins: Draconic corruption
Race: Human
Eye Colour: Green
Hair Colour: Brown
Unique Features: Despite being an accomplished warrior - and not just in the sparring ring, Mordecai has not a scratch on him; while he certainly has the money for this to be the work of a talented and well-paid healer, in Mordecai's case this is simply because through a combination of quick reflexes and good tactical positioning in battle he just doesn't get hit all that often. His corruption takes the form of more angular and defined facial features. These aberrations are common in the Alentir family and are a point of pride as they have been able to maintain a stably inherited draconic corruption through four generations.
Attire: Mordecai owns a set of well-fashioned steel plate-over-mail and the required padded tunic to safely wear it; the shield and cloak bear his sign: the sword over the tower. Like many suits of armour, the pauldron on the left shoulder is larger than the right, giving limited mobility for the left arm but reaching down to the top of the kite shield to form a near-unbroken guard. The helm is fully face-covering, with a stylised eyebrow decal that forks into a two flowing plumes on each side. He has gained the unflattering nickname 'the peacock knight' among his detractors.

PERSONALITY

Likes: Artwork, directness in speech, poetry.
Dislikes: Dishonesty, self-serving officials.
Hobbies: He enjoys playing the mandolin.
Aspirations: To serve the city of Sanctum.
Fears: The day when his convictions will inevitably lead him into open conflict with his remaining family members.

PERSONAL HISTORY

Born Mordecai Alentir (or Mordecai of the noble house of Alentir to those who feel prosaic), the man who would one day be known as The Sword of Sanctum was raised to be the next figurehead of the house of Alentir; maintaining the house's image as a respectable and honourable presence within Sanctum's politics and as an investor in the city's infrastructure and expansion. As a result he is polite and charismatic while also being selfless and dedicated to the good of the city as a whole. Behind his back, his younger brother and sisters were trained to be the next generation of backstabbers and schemers that the house needed to remain relevant. Mordecai was oblivious to this, believing the nobility of Sanctum to be dedicated to the ideals of honour and public service. Far from naive, he is simply incredibly ill-informed and kept purposefully so by his family. He was to be the poster-boy, not a credible political player.

During the chaotic events of the 'Political Intrigue' arc the horse of Alentir bet on the wrong house and as Mordecai's story begins in earnest the house is under investigation. All is about to be revealed and nothing will be the same for the young nobleman, not even his name.

(Note that in his opening arc Mordecai will effectively be stripped of title and property, so his lineage should not be considered to be giving a player character undue influence in Sanctum. His profession is listed as 'mercenary' because I intend to have him join the Vanguard Company fairly promptly)

THE SWORD OF SANCTUM

Mordecai is a swordsman of great renown who uses his reputation as every bit as much a weapon as the very real skill with a blade that it is based on. He can inspire fear and reverence in a manner not unlike the Knights of the Order. His symbol is a downwards facing broadsword above a castle tower, it is emblazoned on his shield and cloak.

Sword and board mastery: Mordecai's training with the sword and shield is legendary, his skill with the weapons near peerless. His own sword and shield are little more than extensions of himself and he can learn to use any other set with only a minimal amount of time to learn the weighting. Unless against another character with equal training with their weapon of choice, or magic is in play, Mordecai should always be considered to be fighting with an advantage when equipped with a sword and shield.

Mace proficiency: Sometimes a one-handed sword just won't cut it against armoured foes; for this reason Mordecai is also trained with the mace. Though not his weapon of choice, he remains a capable combatant.

Plate proficiency: Mordecai is trained in the use of heavy armour, favouring plate over mail, and is able to move in such for a longer length of time without tiring. Furthermore he is capable of angling the harder plates into oncoming blows, reducing the chance of even fairly heavy weapons getting through. This does not in any way change the material properties of the armour and spiked weapons will still punch through the plates.

KINETIC SPECIALIST

2x human peak physical strength and speed.

Mordecai's draconic heritage manifests as a limited grasp of kinetic magics. Rather than trust unreliable on-the-fly constructions of his power he chooses to train a few specific techniques that he can then use with minimal concentration, much like forming muscle memory.

Bolstering presence: Mordecai has more to his name than his reputation; a very real kinetic aura surrounds him that bolsters the strength of his allies. Those fighting on his side within 10 meters of the swordsman have whatever their natural physical strength is multiplied by 1.3 (so someone who has 3x human limit naturally would now have 3.9x human limit).

Kinetic blast: A burst of force leaves Mordecai's hand or shield, travelling as a ten degree cone up to a range of 20 meters it strikes all targets with a force of 1200N applied evenly across the target. For reference, this is enough force to propel a target of equal weight to Mordecai at a speed of 1m/s (force is considered to be applied for one second only) In other words, imagine Obi Wan Kenobi just threw a punch at you! Note that this is applied against the target's WEIGHT not their STRENGTH. 100x human limit strength will not help you if you have no way to brace yourself against the ground.

Kinetic slam: A wall of force crushes all targets in an area around Mordecai up to a radius of 10 meters. The kinetic effect is applied evenly from above with a force of 3kN. Most foes that do not purposefully brace themselves for it will be knocked to the ground. (and people of below average physical strength may still be knocked down even if they do) For reference, this is equivalent to 300kg weight being placed on the target's shoulders. Human peak physical allows a character to deadlift 460kg.

Stability: Mordecai braces his kinetic might against the surrounding terrain to correct his balance. He cannot be knocked down or lose his balance, though main force can still be used to wrestle him to the ground.
