Any up and coming socialite can attend the opera or theater, but an invitation to a dinner party is an assurity that one has been welcomed into the inner circle. A successful venture as hostess of one such exclusive event will bolster any reputation, while an utter failure will cast one out into the cold. Needless to say, for the high society of York, they are a necessity.

As of late, there has been some gossip in regards to William Elphinstone, the supposed great-great nephew of General Charles Gordon, who commanded during the First Opium War. Since inheriting quite a large sum of money, he has been hosting what is being referred to as the 'grandest of gatherings' by some of the nouveau riche. Those from old money seem to be hesitant to attend as there are whispers of unsavory behavior, but the young and curious are all begging for an invitation.

What seems to be sparking some additional interest is that after each of his dinner parties, some of attendees have ended up ill. One or two have even been sent to the hospital for medical treatment. For the most part, this is dismissed as guests imbibing too much alcohol and falling victim to overindulgence... and yet, no one from other gatherings seem to be suffering from any of the same ailments.

Are these events far more debaucherous than suggested? Or is something more curious taking place?

There are two ways to approach the storyline:

1) Wait, attempt to get an invitation and attend the party in person and see what could transpire.

2) Begin investigating immediately. There are several ways to do this based on a character's influences (talking to those who have attended, visiting suppliers and asking questions, infiltrating the home, etc.) For the most part, this would be left up to the imagination/creativity of the people (person) involved.

So, it seems that Team Toreador is going to take this on.

Consider this plot closed to everyone else.

Can Rudiger and Helena, please visit the other thread and we can figure out how you'd like to start it.
