Aiden arrived before time looking a little overdressed for a stroll in the garden, he wasn’t sure how many visitors walked in the garden in a suit. It was just easier to dress like some of the locals be it the upper echelon, it enabled him to move about them in plain sight. Looking at the entrance to the garden, he noticed the it was illuminated in the flickering light of several gas lamps. Even in the in the darkness the garden looked particularly vibrant, opening the door to the entrance which at this hour shouldn’t of been unlocked but it was, Aiden was hit by the aroma of all the flowers from far-flung lands. The moon was in full and could be seen through the skylight window, shining bright with only a few clouds drifting across the moon concealing it for a brief moment and then it would clear again and the moonlight would resume casting itself against the city. Aiden had heard about some of the rare plants and flowers found here in the Garden. He wasn’t one for botany, but the wonder of the exquisite plants here was a sight to behold. It was rumoured that the garden had plants that only flowered only at night for so many hours and then retreated back into their dormant state. The Brujah wondered what time it was, reaching into his waist coat pocket he produced a silver pocket watch, flipping the lid open to reveal the ticking mechanism inside, it was a little after nine. Closing the lid and returning it to his pocket, he strolled around the entrance, his shoes making a sound as his feet touched the stone floor, it almost became rhythmic. By mortal standards it was still early and carriages in the distance could be seen going about their business, their drivers with their huge overcoats on in attempt to keep warm in the evening chill. He began to pace up and down awaiting the arrival of the Setite, he was starting to think was she ever going to turn up or would she just leave him twiddling his thumbs here in the garden, the evening wouldn't be wasted, he would spend a moment in the tranquility that came with the night and the stillness of the garden. Wandering around getting lost in the grounds, he could spend as much time as he wanted here, he had no other business to attend to. After shedding his mortal coil he appreciated the moments of stillness more than ever. |

Impatient. He wasn't alone and hadn't been since he arrived. She had been hidden in the shadows, her cloaked form almost mirroring his movement - following the fluid and rhythmic motions of his steps as his patience began to wear down. The Serpent had arrived well before the arranged time, offering her the opportunity to watch her companion, to take in the sight of him and learn what he might otherwise try and mask when directly in her presence. The gates were open and so when she was satisfied with her observations, she slipped into the lush and fragrant gardens, stepping from the luminous glow of the lamps to shed the illusion. She stepped into view a few moments later, her golden skinned form wrapped in a rich red sari edged in a golden embroidery that matched the silken shade of her curved slippers. Her rich dark hair had been braided and draped over her shoulder, the tail swinging faintly as she made her approach. "I hope you were not waiting long. I arrived early and could not resist the temptation to explore.." her voice carried with it a melodic lilt, the way she spoke almost sounding like some romantic poem. Hearing the voice from behind him, as the Setite stepped out of her illusion, Aiden turned on his heels and the vision that met his gaze was exotic to say the least. The woman didn’t stand very tall but she had a distinct glow about her, it wasn’t her clothing which was from another culture, the east Aiden guessed. He had no idea as he had never ventured that far in this unlife yet. Her vibrant sari catching his eye he followed the golden line down her form to the ground where he noted matching red slippers. ”Good evening, Miss Nagarathna I presume?” The Brujah offered a hand out to cradle her delicate one in his and kissed the back of her hand before releasing it. As was the etiquette of the time nevermind if it was Kindred etiquette. ”No, I wasn’t waiting long at all, I struggled not to explore the gardens myself, did anything catch your eye on your exploration?” Offering his arm like a gentleman, he waited for her to hook her arm around and rest her hand on his. |

She smiled politely as his lips touched her skin and when they did, he would find that they carried with them a faint warmth. His message suggested he was aware of what she truly was, but without knowing for certain, she had no intention of taking chances. "Yes, Mister North. Ramya Jamini Nagarathna - proprietor of the Komal Karana. Thank you for the lovely invitation, it's not often that I leave my place of business. I rarely have the time." With the offered arm, her own coiled around it, palm settling on his wrist - checking subtly for a pulse. "I'm afraid that my answer might disappoint you. As I come from a far away land, it is the mundane of this place, of this country that I seem to be fascinated with.. irises and freesia are nothing my eyes have beheld. Roses.. I seem to be quite taken with the as well.." |

Feeling the cool breeze on his skin and Ramya’s arm around his, he walked on aware of her smooth fingertips brushing around his wrist. However, it was too late for him to will the blood to pump around his body to give the illusion of a pulse, though he did have time to allow his chest to raise and fall almost like he had a working pair of lungs, though that wasn’t the case those air bags had stopped working a long time ago. Looking around at all the marvellous plants and trees in the garden, lit only by the gas lamps that followed the contours of the path. The two kindred continued walking, every now and again stopping near the edge of the path. ”I have to say since my arrival in the city I haven’t been able to visit most of the business establishments, what kind of business is it you run? And do you find the brits give you any trouble? Excuse me I was raised in the United States, we weren’t the best of friends” He let a playful grin emerge across his face. Listening her vocalise her love for the mundane he too shared her opinion, he had spent too much time on the field of battle and not really had a chance to enjoy a moment to himself for very long before ducking for cover in fear of his life. Though during his darkest time it could be said he had plenty of time to himself, at the bottom of a bottle, alcohol had it’s uses and the Brujah used it to drown out the sounds of his demons. Committing to memory her love of roses. ”The irises and freesia are beautiful it has to be said. So it appears both of us are a little far from home, compelled to make this foreign land our home for the foreseeable future. Do you miss your home Miss Nagarathna? Just as he finished his sentence he noticed a freesia in the same burst of red as the Setites sari, the two fell silent for a brief moment enjoying the tranquility. Had this been home Aiden might of picked the flower for the young woman but he didn’t want to draw attention to himself so soon to his arrival in York. |

Her chest expanded with breath, but it was only to maintain the illusion of mortality until she could confirm that he was aware of what she was beneath the surface. She wondered how it was possible for him to learn such information without contacts within her clan or extensive travel through Europe, but the truth would reveal itself soon enough and the Serpent was patient if nothing else. She did not look upon him, her gaze drifting through the colored blooms and shades of green foliage, admiring how even in the darkness their hues could not be muted. Her head tipped at the mention of being unaware of her business - making her all the more curious about how he became knowledgeable of her existence. Was he playing coy to get some information from her? It seemed a strange game to play. "I am the proprietor of the Komal Karana - a bath house. As for the British population of York, while there are many who see my business as scandalous and severely lacking in morals, it is those who preach the loudest who you'll find within its walls.." It was a practiced line to an question she had been asked many times before and one that only furthered the air of intrigue that surrounded her work. "Have you ever had the pleasures of enjoying a soak in a natural hot spring, Mister North? If not, I would like to extend an invitation for you to do so... but only if you answer me three questions.." Her tone was colored with a playful flirtation and only then did she lift her vibrant blue eyes to his face, her lips curving into a daring smile as if she were goading him to accept. While she ignored his question about her land of origin and her sentiment towards it, she hoped that this challenge would forgive any rudeness he might take from it. |

He couldn’t be certain if Ramya had taken the bait with his message that remained to be seen, only the evening and the time they would spend together would tell. It appeared both would play the long game waiting for the other to reveal their cards, that both of them seemed to be keeping very close to their chest at any rate. Using a similar technique she used when he offered her his arm, he placed his other hand over her’s attempting to feel past the warmth and feeling nothing at first almost confirmed his suspicions. Unfortunately, there was a slight thump that beat against her skin like a drummer hitting the skin of his drum. The Brujah would have to find another way to catch the Setite out into revealing her true condition. Following the Ramya’s gaze as she looked at the greenery instead of at her companion gave an impression of unease. The two said nothing for another moment, it was beginning to appear like a scene from a silent film. Hearing her tell him all about her business, he listened intently to every detail ”A smoke and mirrors affair then? Those that stand upon their soap boxes calling you all the obscenities are those found inside the walls of your establishment when the sun sets.” It almost felt like a routine answer she told most people who would inquire to her affairs, he didn’t push the subject any further. ”I have had many baths though I cannot attest to having sat in a hot spring Miss Nagarathna, I will gladly accept your invitation.” The serpent’s invitation wasn’t without its complications, it didn’t take him long to sound off a reply not in his militaristic tone of his old life but an exuberant tone ”But of course ask away by all means” Being aware she had completely avoided answering the remainder of his questions, though he wanted to give her a chance to ask him a few in return |

The chill of her skin could easily have been caused by the coolness in the air, but that would only raise further questions as to why she had not dressed more appropriately for the balmy evening. She had on no coat, only the sari from her native lands and being from India suggested she was not accustomed to a lower temperature. "Mister North, please - call me Ramya." She detested the prefix of 'Miss', if only because it offered information that would not give so willingly such as her status. Women were always presented as married or unmarried while a man's title maintained the mystery. Her gaze shifted to his features, her chin lifting slight to do so from her considerably shortened height in comparison to the Brujah, "Where is it in the Americas are you from, Mister North?" It seems that while there was an invitation to call her by her first name, she would not take such liberties until given permission. "Secondly, I would like to know why you have come to York.." The questions were easily enough answered, nothing entirely too invasive - not that she had confidence that he would have answered them if they had been. "Most importantly.. I would like to know how you knew who I was and what I did.." Those words were edged in a dangerous tone as if she were not at all comfortable with the notion of some man waltzing into the city and being aware of her and her business. It wasn't from the rumors, he didn't seem to know anything about that and if he was a vampire - all the less likely for him to be aware of her presence. |

Admiring the fine embroidery of the sari as the two walked further into the garden, the only sound heard was the wind, the birds were all asleep for the evening and had been for a while. Wondering why Ramya hadn’t worn something a little more fitting for the weather in England, it was far away from the climate of India even in the summer. He summised that perhaps something was at work to why she wouldn’t feel the cold. Acknowledging her request Aiden nodded his head slightly but remained silent ”If you insist Miss...I mean Ramya” a brief pause followed before he called her Ramya, afterwards he took in the pleasant nightsky that was only illuminated by the stars like pin holes in a black sheet. ”I’m from a state known as Missouri. And of course feel free to call me Aiden, there is no need for formalities here, we can leave that to others” That was the question indeed why had Aiden come to York, he couldn’t very well tell her the legitimate reason because he didn’t trust many people he encountered. So for now he would give her just enough to satisfy the curiosity that she had ”I came to York for a change of scenery, an interest in history. And if I may what brought you to this not so sunny destination?” His little deflection hopefully would give him enough time to devise feasible answer to her third question. I heard whispers of a woman from a far off land, that wasn’t married which in itself is strange in this time and a business owner so I wanted to find out for myself if the rumors were indeed true. It has to be said I am pleasantly surprised that I’m able to find out for myself and to dispel those rumors. To spend this valuable time with you is an honour.” Aiden hoped that this would be enough, he was aware it sounded like he was trying to get into her good graces. However he made no indication to her nocturnal lifestyle in hopes that this conversation topic would be avoided, after all it would break the traditions to announce to those not of the blood. Though forward his letter to her may of been, it was enough to peak her interest about him so much so that she would attend this rendezvous. Perhaps both of them would take a little piece about the other from it. ”I believe I have answered all your questions Ramya hopefully to your satisfaction.”A smile crept across his face, not a smug smile but a smile that would put her at ease, at least momentarily if nothing else. ”Shall we talk more about when I shall attend your bathhouse. Evening time would be preferable as business takes most of the waking hours.” As he finished what he was saying he rearranged his coat. |

His deflections weren't as subtle as he might think, then again he likely usually surrounded himself with women who wouldn't think to question his answers. She would. His strange accent filled her ears as he spoke in little detail, but she at the very least acted the part of the charmed companion; laughing when was necessary, the smile seeming a lingering constant on her features. Whispers from a far off land... unmarried woman.. She refrained from rolling her eyes. "Is it so peculiar for a woman to maintain some level of independence in the Americas as much as it is here? It is not uncommon in India, where I am from." It was a lie, but one no one would question since so few had actually traveled at length to her country of origin. "I was married in my youth and my husband died fighting the British.." Another lie, but one easily believed because many soldiers were killed fighting for their freedoms. "It is because of him that I was able to travel here and to open my business. Entertaining others has always been something I enjoyed, and in his death... I find myself lonely. The bath house allows me the opportunity to speak to many different people..." The story was easily spun because she had told it several times before to the patrons of Kormal Karana. "What of you, Aiden? Are you not blessed with a bride? Surely it is as strange for a man to be without a partner as it is for a woman?" They would get to the matter of his visit, eventually.. but the details as to when hardly mattered in the moment. |
