Excellent. Rudiger had noticed and extricated himself without issue. She raised her eyebrows in mockery of a banal comment from one lady and then Rudiger joined them. His polite words... were... as absent as she should have expected. She blinked languidly as he had his fun and smiled fondly at him, though he were a favourite pet.

She knew he cared not a whit what was thought of him by the crowd, that little performance was entirely for her humiliation. It was well played and earned him her grudging admiration. "Yes, ladies, if you would excuse... ah, never mind. It appears our host has remembered his role after all."

A hand on Rudiger's arm restrained him, letting the other guests move first into the dining hall. "You play courtier magnificently, I'm impressed. Mortal?" Helena scarce breathed the words, trusting to his enhanced senses. At his response there was a barely perceptible nod, the fond smile of the falsely betrothed and she led her companion into the dining room as the final two guests.

Helena did not bother with the name cards, their host had terrified his servants into efficiency and one glance at the servants behind the two remaining places told her all she needed. She disengaged from her fellow Rose and took her place.

Fine dining had been a troublesome bore since her rebirth as a kindred. The food was as ash to her tastes now, a rare detail she missed of her mortal days, but she had adapted. She would carve her meal into smaller and smaller pieces whilst engaging in whatever asinine conversation occurred. She would then raise a piece to her lips, sample and allow the revulsion she tasted to show. The meal would be discarded for herself and, if commented on, she would speak of the refined and troublesome palate her grandmother, 'the' Lady Serieux, had trained her to develop from her youth.

A quiet whisper followed Lady Helena's inquiry.

"I'm afraid not."

What exactly, he could not hint at, for he genuinely did not know.

Whether the two Roses would sit together was unimportant to him, and once Lady Helena separated herself to claim her seat, Rudiger pretended to do the same. As he moved through the fringes of the room, seemingly towards his chair, a beautiful white vase, with a beautiful white orchid bouquet, situated on a beautifully Roman pedestal, found itself silently "nudged" towards the floor, where it shattered with piercing noise that inundated the dining room.

Oops!

"Oh my! What a foolish klutz I am! A thousand apologies. I am sure that the vase must have been highly valuable." The Rose beamed towards the guests and host with a smile that should not have been there - one that Lady Helena would recognize as not apologetic at all.
Quickly, before a butler could remove the shards, Rudiger stretched himself to pick them up. "I insist on ratifying this blunder myself!" Yet just as he picked up the first shard, he gripped it with such force that it would cut into the flesh of his palm, whereupon he willed his blood to move and exit through the wound. "Oh my, I've done it again." Inconspicuously, he moved his bleeding hand in the direction of his host, careful to notice if Lord Elphinstone displayed any reaction towards Kindred blood.

When the butler arrived, he added to the man. "I am terribly sorry for these uncouth proceedings of mine. Please, if I may be allowed wash this pesky wound within the kitchen?"
Lady Helena could stay and observe Lord Elphinstone. In the meantime, he would proceed to interrogate the host's staff.

The room was silent save for the echoing crash of the porcelain on the floor. It was broken moments later as those around the table gasped in shock from the sound. As Rudiger went about collecting the pieces, a murmuring erupted from the crowd who theorized as to what was the cause of the Roses' clumsiness. Was he drunk? Perhaps he was intoxicated on something else entirely. What would Helena do?

Many eyes turned to the woman, brows arching as if to wait for her response to her partners fumbling, their looks becoming all the more stern as he cleaned the mess himself and only further added to it by slicing open his skin. Scandalous. A butler moved to follow after Rudiger as he headed towards the kitchen, insisting that it wasn't his place to be, while a young woman moved with a dust pail to gather up the rest of the mess.

The host's rage bubbled to the surface, his features turning a deep shade of red as if he were about to explode, his gaze darkening to a near black. As many tried to soothe him, his finely polished shoes carried him too quickly past them to follow after the Rose. Beyond his fury, there did not seem to be any response to the blood that pooled in Rudiger's palm.

In the kitchen...

Rudiger made his way into the bustling space as a stout woman and her plain looking assistant hurried about to get everything on the trays to be taken up for the first course. No one said a word to Rudiger, but he was given a few chastising glances from the woman in charge.

The Rose was lead to a chair and told to sit by the butler who had followed before he hurried off to find something to stop the bleeding and cover up the wound. While Rudiger sat there, his nose would be privy to the strong scent of fresh blood - though where it came from, he wouldn't be sure.

Helena raised her eyes towards heaven at the commotion and shook her head. "Blessed Jesu, grant strength to endure the bumbling oaf." Returning her attention to the room, she raised a brow at the site of the host's back departing the room.

The host was not mortal. Rudiger had used some vitae. Had he drunk to satiation before the evening? They were leaving the populated room. Would there be witnesses? Once again Helena marveled at the mess spiraling from her fellow Rose. She rose to her feet with an apology on her lips. "Two men, one shard and an explosive temper? I fear a woman's touch is needed. Excuse me, all."

Unless others would intervene, Helena moved to follow their host from the room.

As soon as the butler was sufficiently removed from him, Rudiger rose from his seat and proceeded towards the woman in charge, a mischievous grin lining his features as she derided him with her gaze. He did not enjoy asserting his abilities over humans that weren't deserving of having their emotions manipulated - this woman was not such a human.

In hurried strides, he closed the distance between himself and the woman in charge until she was almost a breath away. When he spoke, he spoke quickly but quietly while exerting the powers of his blood.
"Mein Schatz, how unfortunate that you must work all these hours in such an odorous kitchen, yet I would gladly take you to be my most sponsored of students. I own a manor outside of the city where I teach young women such as yourself how to become most esteemed ladies. I would do the same for you, if only to remove such beauty form this... ugh! Where is that smell coming from, my dear? It is horrendous!"*

The features of the portly woman bunched towards like kneaded dough as Rudiger invaded her space, but before she had the opportunity to protest or to smack him with the large spoon she was using for the cooking, she was quite suddenly under his thrall. The frown melted in a smile, her brown eyes shinning with complete adoration.

"The shed, sir.. in the back of the house.." she purred the words, hands reaching to take his lapels into her grasp so that they remained close together.

"Good god, man.. what is the meaning of this!?" was hollered from behind the Rose, the host standing in the entryway of the kitchen with both fists firmly resting on his hips. "First you ruin a priceless vase and now you accost my staff? How dare you make yourself so comfortable in another man's home..."

And that was when Helena walked into the room...

He allowed her grubby hands to latch on without clear signs of struggle from his part. This was to protect the Masquerade. He could endure this much. Hopefully. Those indolent wastes of flesh within the Ivory Tower had better appreciate this noble sacrifice.

His smile widened like that of a sated babe when she told him exactly what he needed to know. God bless her. Fortunately, the host approached them before the woman got too friendly for her own good. With a mischievous grin, he directed a boastful reply to the man.

"Lord Elphinstone, I must protest. As you can see, it is not by my hands that we are attached. I do mourn the loss of the vase - it perished as it lived, with honorable purpose in its little glassy heart."

He had made fun of these crude proceedings thus far, therefore, he might as well enjoy himself further on the host's behalf.

It was quite the scene that Helena walked into. Rudiger was somehow entwined with a matron of a woman, her face lost in the enchantment of his charm and wit? No, he had clearly enthralled her with his Presence. Between Helena and them, however, was the enraged Lord Elphinstone, blustering out his demands.

Helena opened her mouth to comment but changed her mind before a sound was uttered. Rudiger could cope for a moment, she instead focused her efforts on seeing beyond humanly possible for any clues she could garner.*

As Helena joined the dramatics unfolding, she would also be aware of the heavy smell of fresh blood trailing from another part of the house.

The cook enamored with Rudiger remained close, her hands settled on his hips as she nestled in closer, her whiskered chin nuzzling at his shoulder like a kitten who was eager for the attention of its master. Lord Elphinstone moved swiftly towards her and tore her away from the Rose, a hand striking across her face, "Missus Horton.. what on Earth has gotten into you?" His eyes narrowed to slits as he turned his focus back to his male guest, jaw clenching tightly, nostrils flaring with his displeasure.

"I want you out of my house immediately! You have caused enough trouble for an evening. And you..." he looked over to Helena with a stern features, "To come here dressed like a tart and to be so aloof that your apparently paramour is making off with the help!"

When Elphinstone struck the woman, the Rose's merry expression lost all of its emotion. His eyes were glaring, now, at their host. Rudiger wasn't a chivalrious person - not in the least - what irked him, however, was the blatant disrespect shown towards his guests and his staff by lacking insight into how his actions would be seen. The man had no shame. It could be said the same for Rudiger, yet the Rose would never allow himself to decay to such a state. This was distasteful and petty. The Beast roared from within, urging the Rose to reduce this pathetic excuse of a man to a bloody mess. The problem, of course, lay in the fact that this 'man' might not be a man at all.

Biting into his lower lip until it bled, he allowed himself to calm down and assess the situation, before speaking.
"Very well. It will not do to have me exit through the front door. The scandal of a guest being driven out before the dinner even began would dampen the mood unnecessarily. Allow me to exit through the back door so that there will be no conundrum. I would also ask that you refrain from lashing out against the cook and my beloved bethroded, as the fault lies with myself and myself alone. "

He looked, then, at Lady Helena. He wished to investigate this 'shed', yet there was no way of informing Lady Helena of his discovery, at the moment.

Urgh. He really wished gentleman duels were still in vogue. Skewering, or shooting, Lord Elphinstone would have been quite entertaining.
