At Lord Elphinstone's words, Helena parted her lips, her mouth forming a ring of mock surprise before falling into the smug smile of satisfaction that infuriated so many. She looked past their pugnacious host and, spying Rudiger, waited for him to speak first. Ah. It seemed Rudiger wanted to leave? Very well, it was up to her to occupy this delight of a man. He was already antagonistic, it should be a simple task to attract his ire. "A tart, my Lord, really?" The Toreador pursed her lips, shaking her head sadly. She slowly drew closer to him as she spoke, placing herself at the center of his attention. "Such a damning lack of imagination, to fall upon so trite a term. Shall I just refer to you as the Angry Orange? I think not, there are far more ways to express my thoughts of you, you overripe, petulant, fetid excuse for excrement." She stood before him, smiling pleasantly. "There, see what can be achieved with just a little effort?" |

Lord Elphinstone waved an impatient hand in Rudiger's direction, "Yes, yes.. be gone with you. Out of my sight and never again expect another invitation to another gathering." He was trying to maintain some level of control of the situation, even as the Roses turned his evening into an entirely farcical event. There were other ways to deal with them - sully their reputation, steal away their influence or.. The cook had found a chair to slump into to pout, her eyes lingering on Rudiger, gaze pleading that he take her along with him like some white knight from a fairy tale. Adjacent to her was the door that would lead to the rear of the manor where the shed was waiting for the Rose's investigation. Elphinstone turned his attention back to Helena, the other man in the room now forgotten entirely. "You dare insult me in my own home? Such trash dressed in finery. You will never hold a place among the elite in this city - I will see to it personally!" The rest of the kitchen staff had quietly made their way from the room, not wanting to draw the rage of their employer onto themselves. |

The situation had - as some would say - escalated at an exceedingly rapid pace, and the Rose was unsure of how to proceed forward. It was true that he very much desired to examine the shed in question, and it was also true that Lady Helena had provided him with a perfect opportunity to do so by redirecting "Lord" Elphinstone's attention towards herself. With that said, however, Rudiger still did not know exactly what Elphinstone was, besides the fact that he was not human. No matter Lady Helena's provocative attitude, she was still... distant family, albeit by using a very perverse and corrupt version of the word "family". He attempted to approach the situation from a judicious point of view. Lady Helena was older than he, and thus she would - most likely - prove more capable of handling this unknown entity than he was. Furthermore, by leaving towards the shed now, he would more than likely be able to leisurely investigate without fear of interruption. The gravest consequence to this action would be that Elphinstone might capture, or outright destroy, Lady Helena. "As I have already stated, Lord Elphinstone, you will refrain from mindless aggression against my intended." His tone carried with it the clear intonation of a threat. He approached Lord Elphinstone from behind, before practically yelling into his ear. "If you desire retribution for your wounded pride, then join me outside, and I will provide you with all the retribution you seek. I would even be content should you choose to use a weapon. Surely you must have something of that nature in your shed, no?" When he uttered the word "shed", his gaze looked directly towards Lady Helena. He was attempting to send a message. There was also something else: an apologetic look. He had, quite bluntly, let his... He had not taken the judicious path, and thus he might have unwittingly cost them their mission, and his unlife. |

Lord Elphinstone was near apoplexy. It was exquisite and Helena's thorough enjoyment danced in her eyes. That is, until her Rudiger spoke. The Toreador pressed her lips to a thin line of anger. She made no sound, not for lack of things to say but to curtail the snarl of her beast as it raged, shackled within her. Did he have any idea what fun such a man could be? So full of impotent rage, Helena could toy with his emotions for hours. But then, we are not here for our pleasure. I was an annoying practical thought. Rudiger's gaze moved to her and she met it with her own glacial stare. She would check on the shed, she would end this and she would make sure her clanmate was fully aware of her displeasure afterwards. A glance confirmed the departure of their guests, and Rudiger's belligerence had surely caught the attention of the raging lord. Ensuring she stayed out of Elphinstone's line of sight, Helena crossed the room with preternatural speed*. She paused only long enough to open the door she believed led to the outer courtyard before departing, leaving the men to wherever their argument led them. *Celerity 2 |

Rudiger's words touched his ear and he stiffened and then was startled by the yelling, the gesture only adding fuel to the already blazing bonfire of anger that boiled inside the man. He spun around quickly and pushed out his chest until it was pressed solidly against Rudiger's, his eyes narrowing into thin slits. "You are challenging me to combat? Are you drunk? Or simply stupid? You come onto my property and bark your threats when I have been nothing but a benevolent host to you and your.... whore.." He spat the last word out before he reached up to grab the Toreador by the collar. "I will accept this challenge and you will woefully regret the day you attended this dinner.." he snarled before releasing the handful of stiff fabric, giving the slender man an aggressive shove. "To the park. We will make a spectacle of this.." And with that, he turned on his heels and headed out of the kitchen. The pair would not be alone, many of the guests seemed to be swept up in the drama of the evening and moved to follow after them to cross the park. The kitchen door lead out to a small courtyard with a service entrance for deliveries. Not far off in the distance was a garden and opened area with neatly trimmed grass where the shed sat ominously. It was as large as a gentleman's bedroom, the door shut with a padlock keeping its secrets hidden. Helena would no doubt be aware that the scent of blood only became more potent as she got closer to the small structure. Fresh and stale and the vague sense of something rotten. When Rudiger had first encountered Helena, she had plainly threatened him over something which was clearly a gross exaggeration. Now he watched as she employed just enough speed to be seen as supernatural in a kitchen where kine could enter at any moment. It was good that the host's attention was preoccupied, for while Lord Elphinstone was not exactly human, there was no evidence to suggest that he knew of their nature. Rudiger saw no reason to expose said nature to the man(?). Lord Elphinstone might assume that Rudiger's glare of muted anger might have been caused by the host's lack of propriety. In fact, he simply wished to see Lady Helena staked and sent back to wherever common sense was being taught. The Rose followed Lord Elphinstone out of the kitchen, determined to distract his attention for Lady Helena, but upon seeing that the guests were following after them, his intentions wavered. "Spectacles" were not conductive to the Masquerade, and Lady Helena had thoroughly soured his mood by being such a liberal risk taker. Why should he help that woman who had so carelessly antagonized and threatened him any more than necessary? He had driven Lord Elphinstone away across the blasted park, was that not enough? It was. If they called him a coward, then so be it. His mood had been spoiled, and he was not about to risk the Masquerade by engaging in duels with beings he did know about. Leaving Lord Elphinstone to wait for him across the park, Rudiger made his way off into the night. Edited by Rudiger Blumenthal, Jun 15 2015, 12:32 PM.
