I wish to register my absolute opposition to this measure, Madame Speaker, and call on my colleagues in the House to let this measure rot in the hopper as it should. |

Madam Speaker I am curious to hear what my colleague's objections may be to a bill to restore the ability of Americans to choose whether or not they wish to purchase health insurance. I yield |

Madame Speaker, I do not mean to speak for Congressman St. John, but I certainly oppose the repeal of the individual mandate, given the agreement of just about every healthcare expert that said mandate will increase access to care, reduce cost of care, and increase quality of care in this country. For sixty years, conservatives blocked healthcare reforming by declaring that the system would fix itself. For sixty years, the system got worse. Let's not go back to that. I yield. |

Madame Speaker, I disagree with the gentleman from Michigan. Due to the Affordable Care Act, we now have ER's packed with civilians that really aren't in need of care, and that places a burden on hospital staff; almost as large a burden as it puts on American taxpayers. We need health care reform, but this is absolutely the wrong way to do it, and I completely and utterly support this bill. I yield. |

Madame speaker, I rise in opposition total opposition to this motion. Madame speaker, individual mandate is a system that would increase access to care. It is a system that works in many country like Switzerland. The Republican Party believe that we should reform the health system but that we must repeal this section. I'd like to know what are the Republican alternative to help improve our system if of course they have any. I yield. |

Madame Speaker, The GOP has come out with many alternatives to this mandate. By looking at any number of our platforms, you will see that we have devised many a plan to reform our entitlement programs, including raising the retirement age, pushing tort reform, and even sometimes the thought of privatizing Social Security. These are all common sense plans that don't put large burdens on the shoulders of the American people. The health care mandate is simply an unproductive bundle of taxes, and it's a terrible attack on citizens of this nation. I yield. |
