He would have a breakout year on the hockey rink his junior year in high school, and hockey would dominate his life ever since, joining the University of Minnesota's Hockey team he would lead the team in goals his freshman year and take them to a national championship, his standout year lead him to declare for the draft, and he was selected 1st overall by the Minnesota North Stars, to the great joy of the local population who had grown attached to the young Dashkevich, a staple of the North Star's First Line, he would stay with the team for 8 years, at the prime of his career, he refused to resign with the North Stars after learning their intent to move to Dallas, he was traded to the Ottawa Senators, where during his 7 years there, he would win two Hart Memorial Trophies, and three Stanley Cups, in 2000 the Senators chose not to resign the aging Dashkevich, he would sign with the new expansion team the Minnesota Wild where he would play out the rest of his career, after taking two years off from Hockey he would take the job as the head coach for the University of Minnesota, where he would win his first Championship as a head coach, in 2007 he was hired by the Minnesota Wild as their head coach, taking them deep into the playoffs for a few years. In 2013 he would retire from the coaching position, and run for Congress for the Minnesota Independence Party, claiming victory in Minnesota's 2nd Congressional District. |
