Ms. Prideux of Massachusetts introduces this bill for herself and Mr.Blitzen of North Carolina and Mr.Eisner of California, offers:

A BILL

To achieve freedom and equality for same-sex couples and define marriage as a union between one man and one woman, one man and one man and one woman and one woman.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,


SECTION 1: SHORT TITLE. This Act may be cited as the "Freedom of Marriage Act".
SECTION 2: REPEAL OF SECTION ADDED TO TITLE 28, UNITED STATES CODE, BY SECTION 2 OF THE DEFENSE OF MARRIAGE ACT. Section 1738C of title 28, United States Code, is repealed, and the table of sections at the beginning of chapter 115 of title 28, United States Code, is amended by striking the item relating to that section.
SECTION 3: Let the definition of marriage be only a legal union between two human beings.
SECTION 4: Let same-sex couples receive equal opportunity, privileges with opposite-sex couples and right to adopt a child.
SECTION 5. RULE OF CONSTRUCTION.
Nothing in this Act, or any amendment made by this Act, shall be construed to contravene the freedoms of religious institutions under the First Amendment.
SECTION 6: This bill shall go into effect 90 days after passage.
