This is a big issue we'll have to sort out for a rabbit breeding game. Many people are against breeding animals. While most will agree that breeding ethically for show is okay, and commercial breeding is widely tolerated yet shunned, it sparks heated debate and will be a problem if we aren't prepared to deal with it consistently. We need to decide the rules regarding discussion and promotion of real life rabbit breeding and other controversial real life rabbit issues. We could A) disallow any public discussion of real life rabbit breeding, either asking that members keep it to private messages or off-site, B) have a single forum where ethical discussion is allowed (which can easily be defined), like on rabbitsonline.net forum, or C) have discussion of ethical real life rabbit breeding be perfectly acceptable on all areas of the site. I'm strongly vouching for A because it would be straight-forward and require less moderation as well as being a House Rabbit Society friendly approach that will prevent fights and sour attitudes, resulting in a larger and more diverse playerbase. If A, we might want to put more emphasis on the site being a simulator for rabbit breeding as an alternative to real life breeding, although we need not take a stance on whether we condone breeding in real life. We should definitely not state any opinion on the matter. This will need to be a rule for staff in particular, who should refrain from promoting their opinions on whether real life breeding is acceptable for any reason, whether commercial use of rabbits is wrong (vegetarianism and veganism), whether all rabbits should be spayed/neutered, whether wire-bottom housing is okay as opposed to solid-floor housing, and whether rabbits should be indoors or out. Sharing what you prefer should be fine, but not taking a stance on which is better for everyone (for example, citing a statistics that says rabbits live longer indoors would not be appropriate because it promotes the opinion). If you do have strong views about this, keep in mind that I'm not trying to silence you! Feel free to talk about them here. My second preference would be for option B. But here's the thing—this is a game that doesn't have to have anything to do with real life, and it would be a shame to spoil the fun of something that everyone could enjoy by bringing serious real life matters into it.
