Legacy

Sunlight gleams through the partly cloudy Dallas sky down upon Paxar and myself as we sit in wait at the infamous Dealey Plaza. Though perhaps the fifty degree temperature in Dallas is a bit too chilly to be waiting for someone outside, the view of the plaza is simply too intriguing...not to mention the person I am waiting for is very near and dear to my heart, someone I would wait through fire and flames just to see...

“Reya, this is boring,” Paxar whines. “There’s nothing here but a bunch of old buildings and a grassy knoll.”

“That grassy knoll and those buildings are much more interesting than I think you know, but I will speak more on that soon,” I say to her. “For now, we wait.”

“Ugh, what’s taking her so long? I feel like we’ve been waiting here for hours,” Paxar complains, appearing slightly irritated.

“We have only been here for about thirty minutes,” I inform her. “Though it appears she is running late, she will be here.”

“REY-REY!”

The loud shout from across the plaza attracts our attention as we see a familiar young blonde woman, being accompanied by a dark haired woman in high heels, making their way towards us.

“See?” I tell Paxar. “I told you that she would be here.”

After a few moments, the two women reach us and almost immediately the blonde pulls me in for a hug, which I reciprocate in kind.

“It’s good to see you, Reya,” she states with a grin. “I feel like I haven’t seen you in forever.”

“It is good to see you as well, Vanessa,” I reply, smiling brightly at her as we release the hug. “It has been a few weeks since we last spoke. I pray that you have been well.”

“I’ve been alright I guess. So whut’s been poppin’?” Vanessa questions curiously.

“Well right now we’re in the middle of the Reya tries to wrestle everywhere tour,” Paxar interjects.

“I have been fairly busy competing as of late,” I reply with a nod. “I just got through having a disappointing loss in a Key to Excellence match at the New Era Wrestling pay-per-view event Evolution 4.0 several days ago, recently competed in a wrestling event sponsored by Code Red Wrestling to benefit charity, and I was also victorious in a match between myself and Adrien...”

Upon mentioning the name of my dear friend Adrien Specter, I immediately stop speaking as I notice the face of Vanessa begin to cringe slightly in discomfort. The two of them had had a relationship long ago, both personal and professional, that most definitely did not end on the best of terms. More adequately, Adrien had broken the heart of my younger sister Vanessa. It was a hurt that was healing for her, but still not fully healed. “Perhaps I should not have mentioned that last part. I apologize.”

“It’s all good, Reya. No worries,” Vanessa says, brushing it off. “So to what do I owe the pleasure of getting to spend time with my super awesome older sis?”

“In addition to simply seeking to spend time with you as I have not been able to do so in quite some time, I have a request to ask of you,” I speak nervously.

“Oh? And just what might this request of yours be?” Vanessa questions inqusitively.

“Well, I know that you have unfortunately retired from active competition...” I say sadly. “However, there is this tournament that Visionary Wrestling Incorporated is having to crown their inaugural Tag Team Champions...I was wondering if...”

“She wants Divinity to get back together and be the VIW Tag Champs,” Paxar blurts out suddenly to our surprise. I shoot her a momentary glare of dismay before turning my attention back to Vanessa. She ponders the idea for a moment before replying.

“If it was anyone else asking, I’d say no...but I just can’t say no to you, Rey-Rey. I’m in,” Vanessa declares to my delight.

“Excellent,” I proclaim enthusiastically. “Now, as for why I chose this place in particular to meet...what do you know about John Fitzgerald Kennedy?”

“What’s JFK got to do with anything?” Paxar asks, appearing confused.

“Well, I know that he’s a former U.S. President and a well known womanizer,” Vanessa answers. “He was also assassinated...”

“Indeed he was, by Lee Harvey Oswald in the nearby Texas Book Depository building as the Presidential motorcade drove through this very plaza as a matter of fact,” I inform her, pointing at the road that runs through the Dealey Plaza. “However, it is not of how the death of President Kennedy occurred that I wish to speak. You see, though his tenure was prematurely shortened by Mister Oswald, President Kennedy left behind an incredible legacy after his death, a legacy that continues to live on even to this day.”

Taking a brief pause, I peer deeply into the crystal blue eyes of my younger sister. “This event features some of the greatest tag teams in the world, as well as many teams consisting of notable singles competitors teaming up with one another...Doug E. Fresh and Kurt Noble, for example. They can all be viewed as titans of the wrestling industry, if you will. In choosing to take part in the Visionary Wrestling Tag Team Title Tournament, each of the other teams has done so for one common reason. All of them wish to cement their legacy as being the ultimate tag team that stands above all of the rest.”

“But if Divinity’s got anything to say about it, that’s not gonna happen for any of them now is it, Reya?” Vanessa says to me, giving me a nudge as I nod at her.

“That is correct, Vanessa,” I say to her. “It is here that I seek, along with you, to not only cement the legacy of Divinity but also to define it. After all, we have previously only had limited success as a team. I would like to show the other teams as well as the rest of the world that Divinity has the ability to stand tall against the other teams. I pray that we will be able to reach the finals and reign supreme over these other teams by capturing the Visionary Wrestling Tag Team Championships.”

“Don’t worry, Rey-Rey. Divinity’s got this,” Vanessa declares, smiling brightly as she reaches out and takes my hand in hers. “Now, I’ve seen what you’ve showed me. It’s my turn to show you something. Come with me...”

“Where are we going?” I question curiously.

“You’ll see. Now let’s go!”
