Wikipedia would rock if anyone wasn't just able to alter the info by themselves. I mean there is no real security. Anyone can change anything by themselves. |

ooc: I'm assuming that was ooc. And yeah, there's a chance its inaccurate, but the majority of people who edit try to keep information factual, and wiki has a system for if something isn't correct. I tend to consider it reliable, but you're right that it has to be checked. MemA and Wookiepedia as well. |

OOC: This might be a longish OOC but I feel, once in a while, it is justified regarding the whole Wikipedia thing. I consult Wiki now and then as well but I do lesser and lesser (fewer and fewer?). The amount of purposedly wrong stuff is amazing. Check yourself by hopping to a topic where you really know the details and you'll be amazed. There was European history changed, the whole democracy system was demolished and hundreds of pages of former Eastern-Bloc-propaganda set up as "facts" (like Russia freeing Europe from the evil US when they criminally used Hitlers' defeat to occupy Europe. Or American politics glorifying the Iraq war into a holy mission. Or huge companies taking care of their image and public relation. Or work-related things where some competitors obviously place "bad" news about our company. Or crazy little things like the band I do the website for, someone had a former lead singer dying last year - he wasn't, he still is alive. We deleted that and 2 days later it popped up again, we deleted and a week later it was there again, fully with press releases, TV quotes and obituary - it WAS professional work and it was just done to misinform and everybody who didn't know better MUST have believed it as it was that well done. I am very suspicious about anything Wikipedia. As I said, only once go there not for something you really need to know but for something you really know good about and see if you can find errors and obvious intended false information. Sorry for interrupting our Housecleaning that brusquely, but I needed to say that for everyone for reads Wikipedia believing it all. |

ooc: I'll try to bring this back on topic when I'm done, but is there really a topic
Anyway, I tend to agree with what Pete's saying (yes, it's less and less
) but I'd like to add that this isn't always the case. For example, if you need information on tornadoes, or a certain mineral, or even a Rabbi or Priest, that type of information is usually accurate. Political? Most probably not. But bare science facts? Usually. Wookiepedia etc. is a little interesting, since it depends on a person's view on a movie, show, book, etc. and an adult will probably get more out of them than a kid. So in the end, like they say on Yahoo! Maps, do a reality check of the roads before you drive
bic: "Um, is there anything in here on Commander Chakotay's brains?" ooc: Should I put something there? j/k  |

"Well, then what are we waiting for?" *Types 'Chakotay' then accidently hits 'Enter' while reaching for the apostraphe* ooc: Ooh... What's going to come up???

ooc: omg... I'm so tempted... aw, what the heck, this is housecleaning! Let's run with it! ic: The computer began displaying information. "Chakotay: a fictional character from the twentieth-century television program Star Trek Voyager." Janeway looked blankly at the screen, then at Chaim, then at the screen again. "Fictional?" |

ooc: This is too good to pass up
BIC: Chaim returned the look. "Star Trek?" Desperately he typed in "Chaim Rezit" |

Tuvok secretly typed in "Vulcan", but LCARS boasted the result all over for everyone to hear: "Fictional species in aforementioned Star Trek TV series. Used to annoy human members of crews of spaceships with their arrogant, disturbing and tedious rants they call logic, feeling supreme above any other species because of their logic. Interestingly enough, whenever it would be essential to be really sober and logical, they either mess the situation up completely (for an example, watch episode "ST VOY: Learning Curve", season 1) or flip out completely (for an example, watch episode "ST VOY: Flashback", season 3)." |

*looks back and forth, back and forth* "But what does this mean? I mean, we're not... we can't be... are we?" He desperately looked around for, well, anything. . ooc: This is just slapping-knee funny, literally

"I am not a fictional character! I prove this by doing a mind meld to myself!" Tuvok exclaimed. He griped his own temples and began the usual murmur. "My thoughts to my thoughts...." After a few seconds, he snapped out of it. "It was very disturbing Captain, to meld with my own thoughts, but I could not detect any reason we should not be real. Only question I have is, because that name popped up in my head all the time: Did we ever have a crew memver named Tim Russ?" |

"I think so... it looks like Chakotay found his own brain while we were using Wikipedia." She looked back at the console, then entered "Star Trek Voyager" and began reading. A few moments later, she looked up. "This is a summary of everything we've done in the Delta Quadrant!" |
