ooc: We were beaming it into the shield generator so it would blow up the shield and let us beam our people out.

The female alien onscreen was screaming and flailing her...ummm...arms, and wings and if the audio were on, the sheer pitch would shatter everyone's ear drums. And while she was acting like an overgrown child.

"Transport complete, captain," Harry reported. "Detonation in the shield generator will occur in 4.7 seconds."

ooc: how many can we transport at one time?

IC:

"Three. Two. One. The shield generators have been disabled," his hands were now a blur over his console. "Transport in progress."

A series of high pitched beeps issued from his console.

"Captain, the explosion also damaged an adjacent coolant conduit in their primary reactor. A breach will occur in approximately 47 seconds. Captain, their ship will be destroyed."

Great. There was always something. Beaming the harpy crew over would open the risk of simply starting the whole problem over again, and since it would render the remaining humans drastically outnumbered, Janeway did not like that plan. Still, they were too far from the planet, and it didn't look like there were any other options. "How many harpies are there on the other ship?"

Harry referenced the little dots on his console and reported, "there are twelve of their own crew compliment; four on their bridge, six in their weapons compartment and two in the engine room. They appear pre-occupied trying to neutralize the coolant leak. Transport of our own people is underway."

Twelve. That wasn't too many. Zero was preferable, of course, but twelve was at least manageable. Janeway made a decision. "Once you have our people back, beam the twelve harpies to the brig. Take the same precautions as in the cargo bay."

"Understood," Harry answered, entering the same series of codes to erect a level 10 forcefield around the brig just as was done in the cargo bay. "All crew members are now in cargo bay 2. 10 seconds to a warp core breach on the alien vessel. Locking onto the harpies on the bridge. Transport in progress."

"Transport complete," Harry reported as Tom brought the ship about, ready to bring her to impulse but as the ship engaged propulsion, the other vessel exploded and Voyager was caught in its wake. "Inertial dampers are offline! This is going to be a very rough ride," he announced as the ship rocked violently.

"Harry, do not let those forcefields drop!" Janeway tightened her grip on her chair as the deck rolled beneath them.

"Forcefield strength down to 60%." A nearby console erupts in sparks. "40%!" An overhead beam collapses and smashes onto the deck. "20%! Rerouting power from navigation, propulsion and life support! We'll just have to let Tom iron out this bumpy ride on inertia alone. But I'm gonna need to reroute all power from secondary systems as well if I'm to maintain shields."

He waited for Janeway to give the green light, his hands hovering over the controls.
