"They'll transport you back without so much as a goodbye." Janeway frowned. "I'm not sure where all of you seem to get the impression that alien diplomats always threaten death for failing to follow their cultural guidelines. Most of them are fairly friendly."

An ensign walked into sickbay, holding a small device. She walked to Janeway and handed it to her. "Here you go, ma'am. This should work. It's the best we could make in two minutes. You probably could do better." The ensign nodded to B'Elanna and left.

Torres: It was pretty boring, until Ensign Farley started snoring and then no one could keep a straight face. Of course, the Doctor wasn't at all amused.
Paris: Oo! Hockey!
Torres: It was a shame that we had to cut the lecture short, but the warp core overloaded and then the Borg invaded and we were all assimilated.
Paris: Ah ha.
Torres: You haven't heard a single thing I've said, have you?

"We'd better link this into the comm system and make sure it works." Both of them had ceased to pay attention to the Doctor, and now moved into his office to access the computer.

"It should be easy," B'Elanna smiled as she set to work. This was what she was good at. Within a minute the comm was set and ready. "All that's left is getting this thing," she waved the internal comm, "into me."

"Right." Janeway turned to the Doctor. "Doctor, I need you to find a way to secure this in B'Elanna's ear in the next thirty seconds."

TAG: Doctor

ooc: This is way too much fun, lol.

Harry Kim was in a daze as he heard the message from...was that the captain? She certainly didn't sound like herself; more like...B'elanna! And judging from the similarly quizzical looks plastered on the rest of the bridge crew, Harry knew they sensed something out of the ordinary as well. He managed to relay the message, get an answer from the ugly alien and informed the captain of what was said.

:comm: Umm...Bridge to the captain. The prime minister says she expects nothing less than punctuality. (A little pause) Is everything all right, captain? :comm:

B'Elanna smiled slyly at Janeway. "Everything is fine ensign. Thank you. We'll be right there."

Since the moment he accused the two women of deception, watching them bickering with each other and arguing over the comm devices they were to use in their attempt to successfully complete the Ritual of Trade with these aliens, the EMH was finally convinced that they were in fact switched somehow. He decided to comply with the captain's orders and took the little device from B'elanna's grasp.

"Fine." It was difficult to keep a straight face even for a hologram and immediately began to surgically attach the device onto the Klingon's ear. "Will you PLEASE keep still, B'elanna. How do you expect me to do a decent job hiding this thing with you writhing around like this?"

Five seconds to go. The EMH barely finished placing the first subdermal laser suture onto the proximal end of the device and began placing the final graft to secure it under the epidermis of the outer ear. It was still sticking out like a sore thumb. Two seconds.

"Lets go Doc!" B'Elanna shouted. "I have a ritual to get to!"

:comm: Uh...Captain, the Prime Minister said she's transporting you right now. :comm:

With that, B'elanna in the body of Captain Janeway and with a comm device partly sticking out her right ear was now fizzling out of existence from sickbay and appeared before the prime Minister on her ship.

The Prime Minister spoke, raising her left arm to her right ear and lowering her right arm to her left hip while the middle arm stuck out in front of her, her four fingers frayed awkwardly apart, supporting a purple cloth. "From the Shrine of Mokil and through the Vessel of Tumpal, we offer you the Shroud of Royalty."

B'Elanna stood there, waiting for the captain's first instructions.

Janeway listened through the comm system. "Copy the gesture she's doing with her right arm with your left. Put your other hand underneath her middle one so that she can drop the shroud into it. Keep your pinkies tucked in."

B'Elanna stared at all the hands moving. Which was her left? Taking a small breathe, B'Elanna placed her left hand on her right hip and slid her left hand under the Prime Minister's middle hand. She had never felt so stupid in her life.
