ooc: I think I see where this is going ;) That's fine, you can disregard my thing.

BIC: Chaim looked at the ship warily. He sincerely hoped that these people wouldn't be as mad as he knew they should be.

"Um, Captain, if I may?" he muttered to Janeway, glancing back at their guests, "I think it might be better if our 'friends' weren't visible when you answer this hail, they might get the wrong idea..."

Janeway was about to agree with Chaim and ask that the visitors be escorted off the bridge when the conductor spoke up again.

"No, no need, we have already greeted them!" he said, beaming. He raised one of his ears and tapped his head. "Telepathically, of course. Please, hail them, Captain. I'm certain they only want to thank us for our gift."

Before Janeway could even begin to consider the repercussions of that, the other ship began hailing.

The EMH was still keeping his distance from the aliens, scanning clandestinely with his medical tricorder, paying close attention to the data streaming onto the little device.

B'Elanna took a step closer to the conductor. "Sir, what if they don't want to thank you for this gift? What if, well.... this gift isn't a gift to them?"

Torres: It was pretty boring, until Ensign Farley started snoring and then no one could keep a straight face. Of course, the Doctor wasn't at all amused.
Paris: Oo! Hockey!
Torres: It was a shame that we had to cut the lecture short, but the warp core overloaded and then the Borg invaded and we were all assimilated.
Paris: Ah ha.
Torres: You haven't heard a single thing I've said, have you?

NPC Conductor
The thought didn't seem to have occurred to him. "Not a gift? How could they not appreciate the gift? You appreciate it... don't you?"

B'Elanna took a deep gift. "We do appreciate the gift, sir. What we don't appreciate was having it shoved onto us." She knew that there was a line, and that she probably crossed it, but B'Elanna didn't care. Someone had to educate the Conductor. Today, she wasn't an engineer. She was a teacher.

Janeway was about to step in, worried that B'Elanna may have offended the Conductor and ruined their chances of having the musical influence removed, but the Conductor spoke first.

NPC Conductor
"I see." His ears twitched thoughtfully. "Perhaps a revision of our methods is in order."

At his words, a ripple of murmurs arose from the till-then-silent group following.

NPC Other Ship
The other ship apparently grew tired of hailing and simply opened a channel to Voyager.

A gruff-looking man vaguely reminiscent of a Klingon appeared on the screen. "I am Captain Taro of the Ruut Empire. We are here to issue a challenge against the inhabitants of this planet! My scans show that several of them are on board your ship. Do you side against us?"

Those words drastically changed the situation. "B'Elanna, get them off the bridge!" Janeway ordered. She didn't want to confront these people with their perceived enemies right behind her.

B'Elanna nodded. "Yes Ma'am. Sir," she gestured to the Conductor and others, "please follow me to the briefing room. Its right here, and someone will inform us on what is happening."

NPC Conductor
The Conductor, still seemingly lost in thought, and as a result having lost all of his former insistence nodded. "Lead the way."

Taking the lead, B'Elanna crossed over to the Briefing Room and allowed the small group to go in first. She then entered and stood against the wall.

NPC Aliens
No sooner had the doors swooshed shut behind them, but a member of the Conductor's entourage began speaking. "Conductor, you cannot be thinking of abandoning the gift-giving!"

The Conductor turned to face him, ears still twitching in thought. "You heard our host, Second. They have been the most appreciative of our gift yet, and even they do not approve of our methods. This may be the answer we have been seeking as to why no one ever expresses their gratitude."

"But this is our way of life!" the Second insisted. "What could these tuneless people know about our superior culture?"

B'Elanna coughed slightly. She wasn't sure if it was her place to step in.

NPC Second
The Second apparently heard B'Elanna's thoughts. "And you, you stand there and criticize our methods, but you had no real music before we brought it to you! Some," he glanced at the Conductor, "may be open to your versions of 'music' but they pale in comparison to ours."

"In your option... sir."

B'Elanna's hands became fists. "You force others to do what you believe is right. You see our ways as the wrong ways just because they aren't your ways! I've seen races murder others just because they were different! Wars broke out because of others religion, color of skin, or truly anything that was a little different. We like our music. Ensign Kim still works on his musical skills, even though we are far from home. Maybe others try different instruments, trying just to find the perfect tool to express the music within.

What you do is take away the journey to find ones own music. What you do is shove what YOU believe on everyone else. And, sir, what you do is wrong!"

Yeah, she had crossed the line. Oh, and she so didn't care.

ooc: Good post!

ic: NPC Aliens
The Second Conductor stared at B'Elanna for a moment in stunned silence. The ears of the rest of the group bobbed up and down, suggesting they were sharing some telepathic communication. The Conductor regarded B'Elanna with an expression of awe, and perhaps of respect as well.

Slowly the Second turned to Lt. Rezit. "Do you agree with her?"
