NPC Conductor
Taro signed off and his gruff face was replaced by the beaming expression of the Conductor. His ears wiggled in time with the excited lilt of his voice. "The council has agreed to expand our definition of music to include those forms outside of our own! For the first time in centuries, we will try to learn from others instead of insisting they use our own customs!"

"Wonderful!" B'Elanna smiled. "Captain Taro, the captain of the ship right above you, has offered to share his music with you guys. We can make the connection whenever you are ready."
(While Tom watches tv)
Torres: It was pretty boring, until Ensign Farley started snoring and then no one could keep a straight face. Of course, the Doctor wasn't at all amused.
Paris: Oo! Hockey!
Torres: It was a shame that we had to cut the lecture short, but the warp core overloaded and then the Borg invaded and we were all assimilated.
Paris: Ah ha.
Torres: You haven't heard a single thing I've said, have you?

NPC Conductor
The Conductor beamed. "Our first choir is standing by now!" Realizing his phrasing, he added, "Of course, we won't be telepathically projecting our singing. We will enjoy and contribute to the music of our new visitors and yourselves."

"I can't wait to hear this music," B'Elanna smiled before signing out. She turned to Janeway. "So, how did I do with first contact?"

"Very well," Janeway said. "Whatever the two of you said to the Singers had a strong influence on them. If they ever invent engines that repair themselves, you might make a good diplomatic team," she added with a smile.

*Fast Forward*

Captain Taro of the Ruut Empire stood with his entourage opposite the Singers' First Choir. The Voyager delegation was also present, and had been told they were welcome to join in with the first official lyrical exchange in Singer history.

The Ruut representatives were scheduled to begin. Considering their warrior appearance, it was no real surprise that they all had exceptionally deep voices.
[To the tune of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"]
"This day we nearly fought you!
And beat you to the ground!
Now here we stand, as newfound friends,
Sharing our musical sounds!"

Despite all of Taro's hype, they sounded like wrestling targs. The Singers, however, seemed thrilled. To each their own.

ooc: This is the finale! Feel free to join in with the singing (or not), and change the "to the tune of" song at will! :)

B'Elanna smiled and stepped forward.

(Tune of Mary had a little lamb)
Together, we've made harmony,
harmony, harmony,
Together we've made harmony,
and lovely music too.

ooc: Eh, let's just finish this.

ic: The music from the three groups blended together for the most part, and though there were most definitely moments of discord, the Singers seemed to appreciate even the unpleasant sounds. The Ruut Empire delegation were pleased with the opportunity to perform and belted their notes proudly. The Voyager crew, having sung more than enough in the past few days, were quieter than the other two groups, but did their best to show their support. The next day, freed from the "gift," Voyager went on its way, though they brought with them the entire cultural databases of both the Singers and the Ruut Empire. Whether anyone would bother accessing them was another story.
