Technically, they weren't breaking the Prime Directive. Yes, it was a pre-warp civilization. Yes, the indigenous humanoids were industrialized, and smart enough to figure it out if they detected Voyager in its high orbit of their planet. Yes, if the away team made contact with any of the locals, they stood a good chance of ruining the natural development of the species.

However, there simply weren't any other options. Voyager was out of fuel. The extensive cave system just outside of one of the planet's major cities had rich deposits of dilithium. It was near the surface, pure enough to be useful, and easy to retrieve. A week of constant scanning showed that the locals never went near the caves, much less into them. Whether that was due to local legends or fear of the unknown didn't matter. The fuel was there, Voyager needed it, and it looked like they could take it without being caught. So even though it was technically against the Prime Directive to intrude upon pre-warp cultures, Janeway authorized the mission, reasoning that an unpowered starship hanging around in the solar system would prove just as disruptive to the long-term development of the society as a brief incursion to get said starship moving again.

The away team materialized about a mile into the cave system, after a stern warning from the captain to avoid leaving any signs that they had been there.

The dark cavernous walls suddenly surrounded the young ensign as he materialized alongside his fellow officers and crew. The dark opening up ahead leading into the next series of tunnels under the majestic mountain yawned lazily and a cold draft crawled up his legs.

"Well, I can see why the locals haven't come to these caves before," Harry surmised as he flipped his tricorder open, his footsteps juxtaposed over the little device's mechanical tweets.

David looked around holding up a small flashlight keeping his phaser holstered. It was dark and very large with the dripping water echoing faintly. "I can see why. For all we know there could be some remains of a few adventurous natives who decided to go exploring these caves. Also I would give a wide berth to any sharp rocks. We have no idea what has been in here and there is no guarantee that the biofilters on the ship will catch anything we may get."

"So... I lied. I cheated. I bribed men to cover the crimes of other men. I am an accessory to murder. But the most damning thing of all... I think I can live with it. And if I had to do it all over again, I would. Garak was right about one thing, a guilty conscience is a small price to pay for the safety of the Alpha Quadrant. So I will learn to live with it. Because I can live with it. I can live with it... Computer, erase that entire personal log."

...remains of a few adventurous natives..., David's words rang through the ensign's very gullible and imaginative mind sending shivers up his spine. Sharp rocks would be just as horrible to stumble upon in this darkness, with their sheer white beams slicing through its thick, cold veil.

"What was that?"

Harry thought he saw something or someone move past him, and he nervously looked down at his tricorder to see if there was anyone else besides them here and now.

ooc: Please tell me there's nothing and no one there.... *scared*

A bat, or something like a bat, flew past Harry's head, its leathery wings brushing his ear as it passed.

"I wasn't joking about those adventurous natives. Since when has a cave not been a place for the adventurous to explore." David said just before Harry said "What was that?". Reacting on instinct, David pulled out his phaser and began sweeping the area with his light and the phaser while moving to Harry to cover his back. Just as the bat flew by, he nearly fired his phaser remembering not to leave any sign that they were there . "It was just a bat Harry. Just a bat." he said holstering his phaser and checking the tricorder. "They must be so far in the cave that the tricorder didn't pick them up. We should explore ahead to make sure there aren't any more surprises."

OCC: I assume that the away team is not just Harry and I.

Hishamori suppressed the humours smile that was trying to work onto her face after seeing Harry Kim be scared quite easily by a bat, while Hish wasn't really a fan exploring caves She didn't mind since it was kinda of exciting and thrilling over staying on the ship.

That and Hish liked the dark she didn't know why but she did so that's why she didn't turn on her wrist flash light, though she didn't really need to since she could easily make out shapes in the cave the look to her very much like rocks and she could see her two fellow starfleet officers as plain as day because they did have their lights on.

Hishamori then finally broke out of her musings and thoughts and turned her attention towards Harry and David and said in a loud enough voice while low enough as not to completely spook them "I think it would be wise to get back at exploring the cave and finding the dilithium deposit wouldn't you two agree" Hish asked the two as she stepped into the line of sight so that way they could see her.

ooc: Alright I changed it in way where only Harry (since it's Harry after all, lol) get's scared and david did what he said he did, other than that there's nothing really to change from what i can see, but if there is let me know.

OCC: I wasn't scared. I'm a security officer so that is why I took out the phaser. Also since this is your first away mission we are going to torment you. :)
BIC:
"Alright Ensign Hishamori since this is your first away mission, you take the lead. Just don't get us killed."

"Yes, yes we need to get back to our mission," Harry agreed. This was not the time to get jumpy. After all, he was always Buster Kincaid to Tom's Captain Proton. Bravery and courage should be second nature to him by now. "Anyone detecting any Dilithium anywhere?

Hishamori didn't even glance at David's direction and was while the two contiuned to talk amongst them selves already walking further into the cave with tricorder on, heading towards the dilithium deposit that seems to be further into the cave "this way" Hish said while continuing deeper into the cave

ooc: this is still fine right? again let me know if i should edit things.

ooc: Hish, while we encourage members to react to each other's actions, each member has the final say on what their character was thinking or doing in any given post. Sometimes particular phrases imply different things to different people, which is why it is important to let the author of a post explain themselves if they think another member has misinterpreted their writing. If David says his character was not startled, that is the end of the discussion, and it is polite to modify your own posts accordingly.

"You seem to be holding up well for your first away mission so far." David said following Hishamori. "Mine was a lot more interesting. Remember that one Harry? With those Kazon and the Nadir. Having to negotiate our way out of that situation was fun but we managed to get all of them to a new planet all while holding off the Kazon. Good times, good times." He added.

OCC: Decided to finish my first away mission with the above comment.
