I dreamed I was missing
You were so scared
But no one would listen
'Cause no one else cared

After my dreaming
I woke with this fear
What am I leaving
When I'm done here?

So if you're asking me
I want you to know

When my time comes
Forget the wrong that I've done
Help me leave behind some
Reasons to be missed
And don't resent me
And when you're feeling empty
Keep me in your memory
Leave out all the rest
Leave out all the rest

Don't be afraid
I've taken my beating
I've shared what I've made
I'm strong on the surface
Not all the way through
I've never been perfect
But neither have you

Leave Out All the Rest -- Linkin Park

Curled up in the Warriors den was a big ball of fur known as Hoodwink. His face was buried beneath his black and white fur, hiding his scars, torn face, and shredded ears. The only ugly remnant that remained was his hurt shoulder, bear and naked except for a few patches of fur. But that was on the outside, his fuzzy shell. On the inside... darkness loomed over his mind. Bad memories stuffed into the back of his head were starting to creep forward.

His breathing was even, his side rising and falling in a soothed rhythm. Every once and awhile his ear would flick, a paw would twitch, or he would wrinkle his nose and wiggle his whiskers. Otherwise, the scarred Warrior did not stir. He was deep in a dream state, for he had been sleeping for a few hours now. Unfortunately his imagination did not copy his body. It was energized, and spiteful.

Pack, pack. Kill, kill. The day his life spun out of control and took a turn for the worst. He remembered it exactly, in perfect detail. It was Greenleaf. He was almost a warrior, finishing up his apprentice duties when he snuck out of camp. Call it a rebellious streak. All his life he had been good, did what he was told, he wanted to see what it was like to be bad.

Their stench. Their foul aroma that wafted around them like a poisonous cloud of smog. It filled his nostrils, it choked the breath out of him. Their fangs, white as snow, sharper than any cat claw. Their big, round brown eyes, squinted into a terrifying, evil glare. Their huge looming bodies were protected by thick fur, and rippling muscle. They were unnatural, they were heinous. They were monsters sent from the fiery depths of hell. It was as if they existed only to destroy all other life-- and they were given the tools to do so. They came in the dead of night for him. Hoodwink was sure they were his karma, his punishment for disobeying his mentor and his leader. He smelled them before he saw him. He saw them before he heard them. They were practically on top of him before he could even process that he was in danger.

He felt their gnashing teeth grab hold of him. He felt their claws dig into his side. The young tom was agile and thin, and was able to squirm out, but it was a hopeless endeavor. There was absolutely no way he could make it back to camp on time, and fighting back was a lost cause, and an awful idea. But... he wanted to live! Suddenly he felt a horrible pain in his eye, but paid little mind. Blindly, he bolted in the nearest direction he could, desperate to escape the searing pain from the beasts that threatened to consume him. With a loud splash the ground disappeared from beneath him. He had fallen into the river-- and he couldn't swim. Legs flailing in all directions, his lungs screamed for air. He saw a flash of light, and slowly his eyes drooped shut. Everything went black. Before he last consciousness completely, he had one lost coherent thought.

This was it, he thought, this is the end. This is where I die.

The forest, the dogs, and the river disappeared and once again Hoodwink was in the Warriors den. His maw had parted and a small, low groan escaped him. However, it was mostly muffled by his fur. His tail developed a mind of his own and started flopping around, lashing. Pity on any poor cat that might be sleeping near by. His heart raced, and his breathing quickened, naturally his sides rose and fell faster too. If anyone had been awake during this witching hour they would be able to tell at a first glance that something was wrong. Terribly wrong.

I wanna be there for you,
someone you can come to
I wanna be there for you,
Be someone you can come to

Love runs deeper than my bones
And you, you're beautiful, don't you know?
Flyleaf- There For You

Iceshadow had always found it rather difficult to sleep at night. Quite often she'd wake in the dead of night, when all the rest of her clan was sleeping like the dead, and be subject to cool night air, cold, lonely silence, and fruitless attempts to recapture her dreamscape. It didn't help that she was a light sleeper, either. Something as featherlight as a moth landing on her ear could easily rouse her from her slumber.

So, it was no wonder she was awake now. The thrashing tom less then a few mouse lengths away from her caused such a stir, she'd been awake within seconds. At first, she tried to shrug it off. Tried to go back to sleep. It failed, as usual. And it didn't help that the bloody thrashing wouldn't stop.

Heaving a sigh, Iceshadow pushed herself up from her nest, stretching out her tired muscles. Half open blue eyes glided around the room, searching for the feline that had disturbed her slumber. She found him rather quickly, it wasn't hard. He almost looked like a fish out of water with the way he was moving to and fro.

She stalked over to him, intending to give him a piece of her mind, but the moment she caught a good look at him, she felt something was amiss. If the soft sounds escaping his throat and the way he was squirming in his sleep wasn't enough of a hint, then the look of distress written on his sleeping face said it all- he was having a nightmare. And a pretty damn rough one at that.

Her previous annoyance melted away, concern taking it's place. Lifting a paw, she prodded his shoulder gently. "Hey..." she murmured, "Wake up... It's just a dream. Wake up now."

He remembered waking up on the river bank. A single eye opened part way, his vision blurred. He was on his side, laying on the spongy forest floor. A low moan escaped his throat. He hurt everywhere.

"Now now," a voice whispered, "Close your eyes and rest, it'll be okay. They're gone."

Hoodwink didn't bother to argue, he did was he was told and shut his eye again. Sleep overcame him.

Hey... Wake up...

A voice, like that of an angel. Hoodwink sat up straight, waking in a cold sweat. He was panting, the blood in his ears roared as if his heart was next to his brain. The tuxedo tom turned and looked to the left, his eye blinking. Breathing starting to even, he checked his surroundings. He was in the Warriors den, he was safe in camp, he was alive, and he was not at the riverbank. Still shaken up, he practically looked right through the she-cat that had been his saving grace, even if he was facing her. "Did I wake you?" He murmured.

Iceshadow nodded faintly. "Don't feel bad, though. It wouldn't have taken much." she said softly, trying to reassure the uneased tom. She knew this cat, well she knew his name anyway. Hoodwink, if she recalled correctly. She never really talked to him before, but then again she never really talked to anyone beyond a passing 'hello' most of the time. It wasn't that she was unfriendly, or that she was too busy, it's just that there never was anything particularly interesting to talk about. At least, nothing she found to be interesting.

This, however, was completely different. Whatever had been tormenting him in his sleep must have still been haunting his conscious mind as well, if the look on his face wasn't enough of a clue, then the way his words were hollow surely said it.

"Looked like a pretty rough dream you were having there... Wanna talk about it? Not like I have anything better to do."

Hoodwink sat up into a sitting position and closed his eye. He sighed deeply, imagining that he pushing all the bad memories out of himself. But still, they lingered like the sting from a scratch. Shuddering, he wrapped his tail around himself, covering his front paws. Opening his eye once more, he looked at the she-cat, focusing his eyesight to the best of his ability. It was the dead of night, not even the faintest hint of light. Cats could see better in poor light than total darkness... that is, if they don't have blue eyes, which Hoodwink, unfortunately did. He strained to see her better, wanting to recognize her.

The scarred warrior was put slightly more at ease knowing that she would have woken up regardless of whether it was him flopping around like a fish out of water or not. He grimaced at her last question. "It was just a bad memory..." he murmured, a dead look crossing his face. "But if you want to hear, I suppose..." Some part of him ached to let it all out. He had kept it locked away inside for so long.

~OOC~ ... I thought he had green eyes. xD

~IC~

Iceshadow stretched slightly, making herself comfortable. It was plain she'd be in for a long night, as usual. "Sure, why not? At least this will give me something to do." she said, tucking her paws under her body. Even if she had been able to get back to sleep, this was far more interesting, and her curiosity had been piqued.

ooc~ You're probably right, I'll have to check his picture. xD

ic~ Hoodwink twitched his whiskers in thought, unsure of where to start. "I... don't really know where to begin," he admitted, bowing his head slightly and shuffling his paws. He couldn't remember the last time he had spoken about this out loud, if ever. "Do you..." he began slowly, speaking so carefully as if he spoke the wrong word the universe would explode and destroy all life, "Do you know how I got... these?" He blinked his good eye and lifted his tail to point at his disfigured shoulder. He assumed that she did, after all, word got around quickly in all clans, and Thunderclan was no exception. But he wanted to know just how much she knew before telling his story. There was no sense in telling her something she already knew and thus wasting time.
