Her amber eyes held worry as she stared deep in to the eyes of her mate and childhood friend, Dustpelt. She didn't love him as much as she had once loved Firepaw, but their love was still something true. Or, at least that was what the pregnant warrior hoped. Her friend, Firepaw, had died just a few moons after joining ThunderClan, when the ShadowClan warriors raided the camp with the other three Clans at their sides. ThunderClan had lost many warriors that day, even their own leader, Bluestar had been killed. Of course, at this time; Sandstorm was only a quarter moon from getting her warrior name, and on the same night Firepaw was killed, she had mated with him. She'd discovered she was pregnant a little after his death, but it wasn't obvious that she was carrying his kin inside her until she had long since gotten her name. Dustpelt, being the foolish, gullible tom-cat he was believed the kits were his; but it was obvious to the Medicine Cat, who had stumbled upon her cuddling with Firepaw many times, that the kits were not Dustpelt's and never would be. Sighing, Sandstorm turned her gaze to the nursery and looked at her one surviving kit. Stormkit. He looked so much like his father, with his luminescent green eyes and dark red fur. It was obvious he did not share the blood of his 'father.' And so, the she-cat stared in to her mates eyes with sorrow. Behind him sat Redwillow, the Medicine Cat. One of the few cats who survived the attack so few moons ago. "Dustpelt, my mate. It is time you learn the truth of our son." She said, avoiding his questioning gaze as he looked at her in worry. "Stormkit is the son of Firepaw. You are not his kin." She mewed, waiting for him to respond but only feeling a paw smash into the side of her face as she finished her words, her body being thrown into the side of the apprentice's den. Cursing, she spat blood from her maw and looked up to see an enraged and heartbroken Dustpelt. She watched him lower his head, lick her cheek and then force her in front of the Clan, before her stared deep into her eyes and slashed her throat, no regret shining in his eyes. "You lied to me."

part one:

Stormpaw's eyes were glazed over as he cuddled close to his adoptive mother, Redwillow. The torbie she-cat had cared for Stormkit ever since his mothers murder and fathers exile. He had witnessed both, and he received sympathy from the elder cats since; but jealousy from the cats of his own age. Foolish jealousy, for they knew nothing of the feelings the young red tabby apprentice felt. He was the reason his mother had been killed, and the entire Clan knew that. Even the jealous cats who envied the sympathy he got. None of them knew the tom feared his father, feared he would return and attempt to take Stormpaw's life and his friends. The exact reason he was so fearful of making friends with any of his Clanmates. It was why he wished Frostpaw was not as pushy to be his friend as she was. Frostpaw, a stubborn white she-cat born to Tawnyfall and Birchfur. She, though he hated to admit, really did bring out the positive side in Stormpaw. Sighing, he turned his green gaze to the sky and watched Silverpelt glisten against the black, endless sky. Right beside the moon, the most beautiful thing that he could bare to look at. The sun too bright and the stars too dull, even though his mother walked among them. "I hope StarClan is treating you well, mama..." He whispered, leaving Redwillow's side and padding over to the apprentice's den, flicking his tail at Frostpaw as she happily bounded in behind him. It was as if she didn't know how to keep quiet, even at night when the camp was calm and few were on guard. As he slipped in to his nest positioned right besides Frostpaw's, he whispered a pathetic, grumpy goodnight before he began to rest for the night.

Stormpaw awoke to an irritating paw prodding his side and the giggles of a familiar black cat, Scorchkit. Moaning, Stormpaw turned around to avoid Scorchkit's prods only to be met with the frightful, ice cold glare of Scorchkit's sister staring at him. "Er, morning Frostpaw, Scorchkit." He greeted pathetically, stretching his maw wide in a silent yawn. His eyes were narrowed in a slight glare as he flexed his claws, preparing himself for what he assumed would be another day of long training, long hunting and little sleep. But, just as he was about to leave the apprentice's den, Scorchkit jumped atop him. "You don't have to do any apprentice duties today! Frostpaw already got it all set up with Raindance and Willowfur that you would be training together..." His words turned into mindless blabber as Stormpaw heard him speak of his day's schedule being screwed up. Training with Frostpaw? Frostpaw? Why an apprentice not a day older then he? Fighting a groan of disappointment, he shook himself lightly to force Scorchkit off before turning to Frostpaw and narrowing his eyes angrily. "Hope you can keep up, because I won't be stopping." He muttered before exiting the den and storming out of camp, being careful not to step on one of Silverstream's kits or walking straight into another apprentice or warrior. But, to the toms luck, he managed to make it to the exit before he walked in to a cat, and of all the cats to walk into, it had to be Sparrowstar. Backing up a few steps, he widened his eyes and looked up at the rusty copper coloured cat. "S... Sorry Sparrowstar!" He stuttered, moving out of his way as he continued past him; not even acknowledging he even existed. Just like him to be that way, to treat those lower them him as if they were minor to his life. But, of course, the entire Clan knew the love that their leader felt for them. He just didn't know how to show it properly. "Stormpaw, I wish to speak to you in my den at sunset today. Privately." The elder tom-cats voice was sharp, prickly. Stormpaw winced in fear as a couple of the ThunderClan cats turned their gaze to him, most of them narrowed in suspicion. Had he done something wrong? But, before he could contemplate the scenario any longer, Frostpaw popped up and shoved her head into his side, forcing him halfway in to the entrance to Camp. Forcing himself to move, Stormpaw exited camp and headed towards the river, finding that the prey was normally heavy as it could get in leaf bare during what he called early hours and other cats called the lazy hours. Sighing, he turned around and attempted to speak to Frostpaw, but stopped himself and continued to his hunting spot. He hatied hunting with anyone but his mentor, and that was because his mentor didn't know the meaning of the word lenient. He believed in being strict and drilling a cat to know almost every word to every one of his lectures.

Irritation filled the young cats mew as his claws just barely missed the little brown mouse as it skittered into the cracks between sunning rocks. Turning around, he scented for more prey, but instead smelled RiverClan. Hissing, he unsheathed his paws and turned around to see three warrior. A pretty apprentice, a large muscular warrior and a dainty white she-cat who held the ferocity of a lion in her eyes. Hissing, he took a defensive step towards the cats. "Why are you here." He spat, feeling Frostpaw brush up against him as she stopped beside him. But just as she did, she gasped and stared at the other apprentice. "Maplekit!" She happily mewed before running to nuzzle the apprentice. When the other cat returned the nuzzle, Stormpaw stuttered, flabbergasted as to what had just happened. "Frostpaw you fool! She is an enemy!" He hissed, his eyes filling with pain as he stared at his best friend. Why had she betrayed her Clan?

Sitting in camp, Stormpaw narrowed his eyes as Maplepaw exited the apprentices den with her sister, Frostpaw. Still the tom-cat did not trust the RiverClan cat who had joined ThunderClan to re-join her family. Obviously the young apprentice remembered her days in ThunderClan and hadn't forgotten where her true heart lay, but he still held no trust for the beautiful cat. No matter how many times he'd been pressured to give her a chance, he refused to do so and simply walked away every time she came near. Spitting, the tom-cat watched as Frostpaw left the camp and Maplepaw approached him, smiling faintly. "Hello, Stormpaw," She mewed, flicking a tail and blocking him from escaping. Cursing under his breath, the tom-cat narrowed his eyes once more. "What." He snapped, but saw the Medicine Cat, Spottedleaf, glaring at him from a distance. Sighing, he lightened his tone and smiled weakly at the cat. "Y-yes, Maplepaw?" He mewed warmly, though his eyes shone with distrust and anger.
