Phantom waited up in a tree for the she-cat he hoped - knew - would come. He had been watching the she-cat for moons now - his she-cat. He knew her patterns, her habits. He was as proud as any sire would be to see her earn her adult-hood. She was a queen in all but name and circumstances. A large clump of stubborn winter leaves hid half of his face as his bright blue eyes gleamed with anticipation. Phantom was prepared. Everything was ready. For her. For them. Nighttime sharpens and heightens each sensation, indeed, he thought, thinking of something that his teacher told him once long ago. The midnight tomcat quivered at each rustle of a leaf, each whisper of wind that blew as he waited with longing and certainty. “N-No! Please…” Honeyfern whispered quietly, as the shadowy figure loomed in front of her; preparing to reach towards her scruff, and possibly kill her once the process was over. Just as she felt the teeth graze her skin, Honeyfern’s wild amber eyes flew open instantly. She gasped, looking around, then immediately sighed with relief. It was just a nightmare, and nothing more. Still… Honeyfern felt a little shaken up by it. She stretched slightly, and then quickly slipped out of the den, towards the camp exit. A walk sounded like a good idea right then. It would clear her mind. The two guards on duty nodded at her, once they saw the wild look on her face, and her jittery movements every now and then. Honeyfern managed a weak smile in return, as she trotted forward, closing her eyes. The night breeze blew at her face, calming her senses instantly. Now, this would have been a good dream; just walking through the territory, her eyes closed, heightening her senses to everything around her. Honeyfern opened her eyes, her movements a little more sluggish than before. Well, that hadn’t taken long; Honeyfern already felt exhausted enough to head back to camp. She turned around, and took a step forward. [ The Phantom needs to make his move now. ] |

![]() Floating, falling, sweet intoxication Touch me, trust me, savour each sensation Let the dream begin, let your darker side give in To the power of the music that I write - The power of the music of the night ... Phantom spotted Honeyfern leaving the camp from his pearch up in the tree and immediately went into action. He kept to the darkest shadows as he lept from branch to branch as he followed the young warrioress on her midnight journey. When he deemed it long enough, Phantom slid down the tree he was in and stood by a bush in such a way to cover the right side of his face. Now. Now was the chance! She was stopped! The black tomcat's chest clenched at the exhausted and faintly terrified look on Honeyfern's face. Why was his dear one so? I shall murder whoever made you this way, he vowed darkly. "Honeyfern," Phantom called out softly in what he hoped was a soothing voice as he wrestled to keep it even and kind. A breeze blew up from behind the loner and rustled his semi-long fur. He risked a quick glance away from his obsession to the path he was to take. Hidden, but easily traveled. Perfect. Flattering child you shall know me See why in shadows I hide Look at your face in the mirror I am there inside! |

Honeyfern pressed her paw into the ground, the frozen frown thawing out the pad on her paw. It helped her relax even more, believe it or not. Just as her next paw was about to take a step, Honeyfern heard her name. Her whole body went rigid, as she looked around slowly. She picked an awful time to go for a walk; why couldn't she have went at dawn, so that she might be able to see a little better? Her only source of light came from the moon, and it wasn't exactly helping her see the source any better. "Um..." Honeyfern trailed off, unsure of how to response. "Yes?" Mentally slapping herself, Honeyfern continued to look around. Usually, if you heard a voice in the middle of the night, while out on a walk, most cats would usually run. Yet, this was was so kind and sweet... surely, this cat wouldn't do any harm, right? But, what if it wasn't a cat, but a dog imitating a cat's voice? Now she was really nervous for the voice to respond, but Honeyfern didn't move, just out of sheer curiosity. Would the voice respond? Edited by Cindey, Jan 11 2012, 08:08 AM.

ooc;; So sorry for the late replies! Dx I've been trying to get the perfect template for Phantom and my schedule has been a bit hectic. ^-^;;;;![]() Floating, falling, sweet intoxication Touch me, trust me, savor each sensation Let the dream begin, let your darker side give in To the power of the music that I write - The power of the music of the night... Eyes closed as he let the sweet sound of Honeyfern's voice wash over him before looking at her with a deep inhalation to confirm it was her. Phantom stepped out a bit more, still keeping his face hidden in the darkest of the shadows as he noticed his dear one's confusion on where he was. The black tomcat almost purred with endearment. She was still such a small kit in some ways! "You are troubled, are you not?" he questioned gently, urging for conversation. Phantom looked at her intensely, his obsession for her lending a bright gleam to his gaze. He stayed just far enough away to hopefully make Honeyfern step closer to get a better look at him, and thus, bring them closer to his desired goal. He admired Honeyfern's pelt in the soft moonlight and once again tasted her addicting scent. It sent a flood of longing through him, but he quelled it. That could wait for another time. But that time would come, even if he had to kill to get it. "Don't fret, I shall not harm you," Phantom meowed, as if reassuring her she wasn't the subject of his dark thoughts. "I shan't let anything harm you," he whispered more quietly after a heartbeat's pause. Forget these wide-eyed fears. I'm here, nothing can harm you My words will warm and calm you. Let me be your freedom, Let nighttime dry your tears. I'm here, with you, beside you, To guard you and to guide you . . . Then say you love me every winter morning, Turn my head with talk of summertime . . . Say you need me with you, now and always . . . Promise me that all you say is true… That's all I ask of you |

This voice knew her well. Honeyfern was indeed, even though she didn't want to admit it, still troubled by the nightmare she had experienced a while ago. Elders have told her it wasn't true, that dreams were just past and present memories jumbled up together. She couldn't remember ever being attacked and almost forced by a tom like that before, so it troubled her deeply than most nightmares Honeyfern had experienced since she could remember. "Y-Yes. I had a terrible nightmare." She admitted to the voice. She was so naive, Honeyfern was basically a kit in a grown cat's body. In the shadows, Honeyfern could see one eye, blue as the sky on a cloudless day, glowing slightly. Curiosity prickled at her pelt. Nervously, Honeyfern took a step towards the shadow, until she was about a fox-length, from the tip of their noses to the edge of their tails, away from the mystery tom. "R-Really? N-No nightmares will ever harm me? You won't harm me? No one will harm me?" The idea was almost too good to be true. The thought of being protected all the time was a new concept all together for Honeyfern. A very, very, very tempting concept. She stepped back suddenly, alarm in her eyes. "No." She murmured, turning her back on the glowing eyes. "No." She repeated, shaking her head furiously. "You're lying. That's what all toms hiding in the forest at moonhigh do!" [ A sudden change of heart. ] |

![]() ![]() 'What all toms hiding in the forest at moonhigh do?' Phantom paused for a moment at that frantic mewl, pondering what exactly Honeyfern was going on about. Then his eyes darkened as he realized what she meant. So she'd heard the stories about him... They must have been elaborated upon to include more than one cat, but... the horror stories of him and his appearance must have reached her somehow. A slow claw dragged itself inside his chest as he imagined her being frightened by him. Frightened indirectly and with vague stories, but frightened nonetheless. "Little one, why would I have cause to lie? I already swore I wouldn't harm you." The black tomcat had to pause to collect himself again as his voice had hardened a little bit. What could he say to convince her of the truth? He unconsciously took a small pawstep forward to reassure her, letting moonlight light up a small corner of the right side of his face. Luckily it wasn't enough to let slip it was more than a battle scar and she was facing the other way. No, she couldn't leave! Not now! He was close... so close his whole being ached. A snap of a branch, a rustle of leaves, and Phantom was in front of Honeyfern and concealed once more. Foxdung, now he'd have to maneuver her to another passage. "I won't harm you, Honeyfern. I beg your belief. No harm shall come to you while I am around." Despite his attempt at controlling his voice, a small crack broke through at the word beg. Phantom cursed quietly at his lack of control and flattened his ears at his stupidity. He was not one to beg! She would come! If she refused this time, he would have to use force. Honeyfern had heard stories being told to the kits in the Nursery, while hanging around. She, at first, thought the queens were just telling them to scare the kits. After all, a tom with a scarred face hanging around at night, killing cats with a swipe of his claws? That didn't sound likely. Now, standing here, Honeyfern could see why the queens told the kits not to sneak out at night, or else the "Phantom" would get you. The way the queens told the kits, it was as though they had experienced it themselves. Had they really? Real-life was worse. "That's what they say at first. Then, before you know it, he's gained your trust, and uses that opportunity to kill you, and use your meat as food, fur as warmth, and bones as decorations." Honeyfern breathed, before she realized that she had told THE Phantom himself one of the stories the queens had told the kits the other day. She didn't want to turn around the look; if the stories were true, part of his face was deformed, and filled with scars and what-not. All her informational sources came from the queens. She trusted those she-cats with her life. The she-cat took another step forward, hoping the Phantom didn't notice her budge. "I-I'm sorry, Mr. Phantom." She murmured, as quietly as possible, and began to walk back to camp. Eventually, Honeyfern broke into a run, sweat already dribbling down her face from her eyebrows. Already, the she-cat was panting. The fear, the adrenaline; everything combined into one. Honeyfern needed to get back to camp, and wake those queens. She definitely had a story to tell them! Her encounter with the real, living Phantom would become a new story that they could tell the kits. They needed to stay home. Their life depended on it. |

![]() ![]() No... Not her too... Not her too. Phantom stumbled backwards as he heard Honeyfern recount the stories she'd heard of him. Bile rose in his throat and it felt like the claw had ripped out his heart. No... "No...!" he howled. Black as night, Phantom leapt forward after Honeyfern. He circled around her and stopped directly in her path, hopefully stopping her flight from... from him. Anger and pain surged through him, making his fur bristle. No longer was he careful to hide his deformity. There's no point now anyway. Is there, he thought bitterly. "No!" he roared again. "For too long I've been pushed away. For too long! Not by you too, my dear one. I swore I would not harm you, do not make me break my promise!" He stalked towards the young ThunderClan warrioress, pale eyes narrowed and face twisted into a snarl. No... no... He didn't want this! He never wanted to use force. Honeyfern just kept on running. Her intentions were to go to Thunderclan camp, and tell the leader, deputy, or even the medicine cat or their apprentice about this cat, and possible drive him out. He was a true danger to the kits, especially of Moltedheart, the ones she had seen being given birth to. Somehow, just watching them come into this world made her feel... attached to them, almost like an older sister to them. "For them." She whispered softly. He wouldn't- She heard the roar in the distance, causing her to slow down slightly as she looked around, to make sure things were safe. Honeyfern increased her speed, only to nearly collide with the Phantom. She gasped, digging her heels and claws into the earth, just before her nose touched his. Now, in the light, the Phantom was even more scarier. Part of his face had no hair, and was covered with nothing but battle scars. Her eyes were drawn to his eyes, though. Glowing, eerie, yet so... sad, and alone. A pang of guilt rippled through Honeyfern. "I-I" In this kind of situation, Honeyfern had no clue how to respond. She just stared at his face in general, not the scars like most people, in slight confusion, and fear. She could, almost, see her reflection in his blue eyes, pale like the sky on a beautiful day. She didn't know what it felt like to feel alone and abandoned. It had never happened to her. Her parents death didn't really make her an orphan. She had been a warrior at the time, and she was old enough to take care of herself. "What am I supposed to do?" Intentionally, Honeyfern had planned to whine that phrase mentally. Instead, she had spoken it aloud in a kit-like whine. On cue, her cheeks flushed a pale pink, taking a stumbling step back from the Phantom. |

![]() ![]() Phantom stalked over towards Honeyfern until she skidded to a halt less than a whiskers-breadth from his muzzle. He closed his pale eyes briefly in bliss, inhaling her scent deeply. Then they flew open again with disgust. This wasn't the sweet scent Phantom adored. No, it was spiked with the rancid stench of fear. Fear. With a humorless laugh, he abruptly tuned away from the young ThunderClan warrioress to stalk away several paces. "But of course, why wouldn't she be frightened of the Phantom," he spat, more to himself than to anyone else. "This repulsive carcass who seems a beast, but secretly dreams of beauty... secretly." He took a deep breath in an attempt to control his fury and paused in his steps. No... No not fear. ...Guilt? Fury lit his eyes as he whirled around to again face Honeyfern. Guilt was no different than pity in his eyes, and Phantom loathed pity. "Why my dear one, you're supposed to come with me," he snarled as he bounded towards her. With a vicious nudge, Phantom tried to make her go down the nearest passage to his cavernous home underground. "You've seen my face, now you cannot ever be free." The midnight tomcat let his claws slide out to dig into the cold earth. He would never use them on Honeyfern, but he had to dig them into something, or he'd do what he had sworn not to. but in his eyes all the sadness of the world those pleading eyes that both threaten and adore GRAPHIC WAS MADE BY [ BROKEN BIRD ] of [ CAUTION 2.0 ] TEXT BANNER WAS MADE BY [ DAPHNEA ] OF [ CAUTION 2.0 ] LYRICS FROM MUSIC OF THE NIGHT AND RAOUL I'VE BEEN THERE FROM PHANTOM OF THE OPERA © ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER |

[ Whoa. I. Love. This. <333 ] Honeyfern took the opportunity of his back turned away to take a couple of strides backwards, determined to take this slow, so the Phantom didn't notice that her location was, subtly, getting farther away from him. The camp was in the opposite direction, but any place was definitely better than here. His words, spat and angry, took Honeyfern's fear, and guilt, to a whole new level. He abruptly turned towards her, and Honeyfern had to bite her tongue to gasp in horror. His eyes, ones Honeyfern used to think held sadness and pity for himself, held nothing but fury. She tried to turn and run, but a sudden nudge in another direction caused her to stumble forward, and almost land on her face. She glanced behind her shoulder at him, but stopped halfway there, and looked back at the direction the Phantom had nudged her in. Where was he trying to take her, anyway? And never be free? This tom didn't own her... then again, he might as well. Honeyfern didn't have any power over him. He ruled her, no matter what. "... Lead on." |

![]() ![]() And lead her Phantom did. With a surge of mad delight he shoved her into the nearest tunnel in the earth, hidden inside a badger's sett. He scented her fear mingling with her guilt in the small tunnel and growled low and long. If she was any other cat, she would have been dead by now. The farther they went, the gentler he became in his shoves and nudges until they eventually arrived at a small cavern that split off into several tunnels. By this time he was even helping her if she stumbled on a rough patch. Here he allowed Honeyfern to rest in a nest with down and rabbit's fur lining it. It was obvious that it was brand-new and made with care. A small hole was in the roof of the cavern, letting the moonlight beam down softly to illuminate the cave. As she settled in, he darted off into a tunnel for several heartbeats before coming back with a ball of soaked moss that he lay before the she-cat. Phantom looked at her softly for a moment before running off again into a different tunnel. Phantom was gone longer this time but came back with a plump vole and a scrawny mouse that scented of ShadowClan. The vole he carefully set at Honeyfern's paws before he took the mouse and slunk off into a dark shadow to crouch and eat. He darkly but warily gazed at the ThunderClan warrioress as he waited for her to be rested, as if he were afraid she'd attack him or flee in terror, but assured her that he'd catch her if she did. In all honesty, he wouldn't chase her for long if she decided to run, and he wouldn't defend himself if she attacked. He loved her too much to hurt her, and his heart would break if she fled. you have come here for one purpose and one alone from the moment i first heard you sing i have needed you with me to serve me to sing for my music music GRAPHIC WAS MADE BY [ BROKEN BIRD ] OF [ CAUTION 2.0 ] TEXT BANNER WAS MADE BY [ DAPHNEA ] OF [ CAUTION 2.0 ] LYRICS FROM MUSIC OF THE NIGHT AND MUSIC OF THE NIGHT FROM PHANTOM OF THE OPERA © ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER |

Honeyfern bit her lower lip, fighting back the boiling words that threatened to spill themselves out of her mouth like a gushing waterfall. She wasn't usually like this. A fly would hover around her, and Honeyfern wouldn't do anything. Now, if even the slightest little thing set her off, she'd probably be going crazy. Yet, the farther into the tunnel they went, the more gentler he was. She was searching for something interesting, peculiar, anything. Something that might look like an escape route to her, but nothing to the Phantom. Nothing looked out of the ordinary, except for that it appeared this tunnel had been used quite often. Was this his home? Honeyfern could see why darkness would be fine with him. If anybody saw his scarred face, they would either flee in terror, or fight back with all their might. The guilt washed over her like a tidal wave, almost drowning out her fear. Finally, after what had appeared like an eternity, they came upon a small cavern, that split into different tunnels. She glanced down them quickly, but to no aid. It was too dark down there to even see anything. At least there was some light. The moon shone brightly from the small hole above, giving her a sense of serene peace and connection with the world above. Honeyfern wasn't totally cut off. Just a little bit, maybe. The Phantom ushered her onto a nest. She settled down, not realizing how tense her muscles had been the entire time, until she relaxed them. A sigh, some-what in pain but mostly just pure relief, escaped through her pursed lips, as she looked around the cavern. The nest was definitely soft, she had to give him that. The down created a soft, plush surface that eased the tension out of her stressed-out body, while the rabbit lining just made it more comfortable. A wet moss-ball, followed behind it with a plump vole, were placed before Honeyfern's paws. She looked up at the Phantom with wary eyes, bending down to snatch the moss-ball up. Gingerly, the she-cat placed the moss-ball in her mouth, and chewed on it softly, letting the cool liquid of water trickle its way down her throat. Once completely and utterly dry, Honeyfern placed the moss-ball beside her. Hey, it could become her entertainment in the future, depending on how long the Phantom kept her down here. Next, the vole. It was plump, and Honeyfern detected the faint stench of Shadowclan. She stared down at it, uneasiness settling in her hollow stomach. She shoved it away with her paw. "I can't steal Shadowclan's prey." She looked over at the Phantom's eyes in the shadows, then back at the vole. |

![]() ![]() Phantom hesitated as Honeyfern shoved away his offering with a paw, her nose wrinkled in what looked like disgust and giving some excuse about 'stolen prey'. His ears flattened and he crouched low to the ground. So she hated him after all... He didn't know the meaning of boarders, of Clans, of stolen prey. And it wasn't like he could offer her another piece of prey. The mouse and the vole were all he had stashed at this point in the journey. Should he respond and risk even more of her wrath, or keep quiet and continue on? After several agonizing heartbeats, Phantom slunk slowly out of the shadow and over to Honeyfern. Wordlessly, he took the vole and went back into the passage that he had retrieved it from, his ears flattened in hurt all the way although it was difficult to tell with his back to the she-cat. The time he was absent was longer than before, as he walked slowly the whole time, hating himself the entire way. When he returned, he was even more quiet. "We shall continue once you are sufficiently rested," he murmured and went back to his shadow to wait. He would return the vole once Honeyfern was asleep in his actual home. child of the wilderness born into emptiness learn to be lonely learn to find your way in darkness GRAPHIC WAS MADE BY [ BROKEN BIRD ] of [ CAUTION 2.0 ] TEXT BANNER WAS MADE BY [ DAPHNEA ] OF [ CAUTION 2.0 ] LYRICS FROM MUSIC OF THE NIGHT AND LEARN TO BE LONELY FROM PHANTOM OF THE OPERA © ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER |
