So this girl I know about 12 she believed she was on top of the world Then one year it all came crashing down See her parents got divorced when she was 10 That little girl locked herself in a bathroom and cried She needed a friend, her mother became her bestfriend Everything was discussed, tears were shed The girl turns 12 and summer began she thought she'd spend a summer with her dad Summer turns to a winter school begins Siblings and all she learns she's stuck She cries herself to sleep for years "Why doesn't my mom love me?" Mutilation after mutilation she feels at ease "To be or not to be?" Hamlet must be right death must be better than life The girl ages and her mother grows more distant She finally gets back to being herself again wouldn't you know it she isn't numb any longer That mother she lost is replaced that void she tried to fill The girl turns 18 and geuss what she's learned You can't live in the past you can only live for today She is still struggling but she believes she'll pull through Verbally abused by family, physically abused by family She no longer believes in love She believes in nothing and no one How do you know? You might ask She is me, I knew her when she died at 12 Reborn at 18 12 year old me slit her wrist and jumped from that 3 story apartment 18 year old me looks back shaking her head "What the hell." Wouldn't trade this crazy life for anything Battle scars everywhere and I wouldn't trade it for the world What did I learn? I'm stronger without the family that doesn't love I'm smarter than predicted to be And braver than anyone Why? Because that's what I've taught me |
