good days and bad days

After the PB LB pinky on sunday from the stones i was hyped and wanted more. Its a damn addictive form of fishing. Its rewarding fishing in such shitty conditions, freezing, getting soaking wet but then getting a result.

We went out last night and signs were excellent as my mate hooked up and landed a nice fish about 15 mins after arriving. It certainly made up for his poor form the day before and it was set to be another good night with the wind howling, the swell pumping and frequent heavy squalls. Pinky fishing heaven.

But alas no! Ihad possibly the worst session ive had in years. Everything i put my hands on turned to fail.
My first 3 casts resulted in lost sinkers due to snags. Then i had about a dozen casts last about 5 mins due to line clogged with weed. bait wouldnt stay on the hooks and my hook trace tangled in the sinker line multiple times. I had a brief chomp on my line at one point that didnt result in a hook up. an inspection a short time later showed a nice bite mark that left a flap of flesh containing my hook, and the head, which contained the other hook. But i stuck it out. Cast after cast ended in tears until i broke the cardinal beach fishing rule and dropped my rod and reel into the wet sand. Lucky it was Mini-staal with a sealed drag so no real damage. but it summed up the night nicely. We gave up around 9:30 with just that one fish landed.
I went home feeling like shit and disappointed. I wasnt overly worried about not getting a fish in, it was just all the constant crap that was such a downer.

Unable to live with myself it was either throw myself in front of a train, or, get back out there and do it right.
As someone took the first option today already i saddled up when i got home and headed off to my beach. It was a beautiful sunset, the wind had dropped right off, and the stars came out to say hi.

To cut my usual long story short we ended up doing well and some nice fish were landed between the 3 of us all at a schoolie size of 60-70cm which included one mate getting his first off the sand, and one his first metro LB pink.

Pic is my 2 for the night.

And you call that bad effort - well done actually.

I had a bad one yesterday....zip at Rous Head.... and strained the right knee clambering over rocks. So if I give rock fishing a miss it is either air powered bait launcher or a boat.....
